Junebugs and Georgia Peaches: Bernie Dexter On A Budget

Happy Tuesday!  I'm so honored to be guest blogging over at Junebugs and Georgia Peaches today.  If you didn't already know, June got married on Saturday and I was overjoyed to take over while she enjoys life as a newlywed :).  I'm talking about different ways to get a Bernie Dexter dress at a discount, so be sure to check it out HERE!

Back Again

Blog photos 001

This is absolutely one of my favorite skirts.  I've had it for a few years and I could never see myself parting with it.  Since I was pregnant much of last year, many of my favorite skirts went into hiding.  I can happily say that they're back and fit comfortably again so you'll see a lot more of them in the future.  It's like I have a whole new wardrobe... At least I need to convince myself that!

What's On My Radar: Current Loves

This is coming a little late this month (seriously, where did September go?) but it's still full of great finds!  While my focus is always on dresses, I do my best to add accessories and even home decor to my wishlists.  Here's what I've been looking at for my fall additions.

Unique Vintage:

This is pretty much the cutest novelty print ever!  I've seen this dress in another style but I really like the Peter Pan collar on this one.

I don't have many coats because I only use them for a month or two a year.  I must be crazy because I'm always looking for a new one!  I love the look of a great peacoat and this teal one is perfect.

I love hair accessories but I seem to forget to wear them all the time.  I love hair flowers and this one happens to be in my favorite color.

Modcloth:

Okay, it's a dog printed dress that includes chihuahuas!  Need I say more?

I love wiener dogs and my Tommy is half of one :).  I also love my morning coffee so I wouldn't mind adding this mug to my collection!

I have absolutely no reason to purchase a shark shaped sleeping bag.  But I can't help but want it anyway!  Who wants to come to a sleepover?

What seems like a cute printed top from far away is actually full of cute little French Bulldogs.  I love this so much!

ASOS:

This print is just too gorgeous to pass up!  It seems like more of a summer print but it could easily be worn in the cooler months with some great layers.

I love me some matching separates but this skirt is the winner here!  I really like the length and the print is so vibrant.

I probably won't be doing much shopping because I ordered a few Stylish Surprises with Modcloth yesterday.  I don't know why but the mystery box is too hard to resist!  What's on your wishlist for the fall?

Love You Brunches

Modcloth Love You Brunches Hell Bunny Karen dress 018

A few weeks ago I needed a black dress for a funeral.  Thankfully I didn't need to go out and buy one because I had just that: one black dress.  I guess it doesn't come as too much a surprise but I do see that it's not the worst thing to have a few in my closet.  While this isn't a plain black dress, it's certainly a little bit different from what I gravitate towards.  The color (obviously) and the button down style can be tricky for me.  I hate having those gaping areas on the chest when the top is too tight but this dress fits like a dream.  Looks like another dress was destined for my closet...

Blue Ribbon Baker

Modcloth Geode Blue Ribbon Baker dress 023

So I may have gone a little crazy during Modcloth's 70% off sale last week.  I happened to have a 20% coupon as well so it was much too hard to resist!  I've been pretty much obsessed with this dress since it appeared on the site but that 160 dollar price tag was a little too much for my taste.  I was overjoyed when it was included in the sale and snatched it at an unreal price.  It's another blue dress in my closet but I don't think I could ever have enough!

Sprig Has Sprung

Bernie Dexter Modcloth Sprig Has Sprung Dress 010

This dress is definitely out of my comfort zone.  The neckline is not something I'm normally attracted to but the print of the dress was just to cute to pass up.  I hadn't worn it yet, but it was 109 degrees on Tuesday so I thought it was best to wear these "summer" dresses now.  I'm looking forward to cooler weather so I can actually put together my outfits.  I feel so uninspired right now but I would be miserable layering anything at the moment.  My cardigans and tights are dying to make a comeback!

Eyeliner: Which type is best for you?

I don't know about you, but I'm constantly trying to find the perfect type of eyeliner for everyday wear.  I own more types/brands than I'd even like to admit!  So instead of feeling guilty of my makeup hoarding, I'll go through the pros and cons of each.  Here we go!

Makeup

Pencil Liner
I think this would be my least favorite liner.  It's clumsy, not very saturated, and smudges way too easily.  I hate having to sharpen it constantly to get a good thin line which seems kind of wasteful?  That being said, it's the best when you make a mistake.  It's a wonderful thing when you can take a clean q-tip and erase the horrible makeup line without having to completely start over.  When I do use a pencil, I prefer NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner because of its long wear.

Makeup

Liquid Liner
I'd consider this to be more of a love/hate type of liner.  I think it best suits the makeup expert (aka not me).  It creates a beautiful saturated line with one application.  If you're a pro with a steady hand, this is a dream.  Unfortunately, it takes forever to dry.  Even if I'm lucky enough to get it right the first time, chances are I'll blink or look up and smear it all over the place.  It's also really hard to correct any bad lines without looking like a raccoon.  Maybe that's just me though?  My favorite liquid is definitely Benefit's Magic Ink.  It has a really thin applicator and never clumps!

Makeup

Gel Liner
I think gel liner is a good mix of the first two.  It has the precision of the liquid liner with the forgiving nature of the pencil liner.  I'd say I use gel liner the most but it's definitely not perfect.  It takes a few layers to get on a nice saturated line which is a bit frustrating.  I have to admit, I'm kind of a makeup snob but Maybelline's Lasting Drama Gel Liner is amazing.  It definitely beats out any of the "designer" brands out there and it's super affordable.  I've had mine for about three years now and I haven't even finished half of it!

So what's my favorite for my routine?  I actually use a mix of gel and liquid.  I use the gel to get the initial line and use the liquid for the finishing touch.  Especially if I'm going for a cat eye look.

What's your eyeliner routine?  Which type best suits you?  Let me know in the comments below!

Pink Lemonade

Bernie Dexter Rose dress in Lemonade Eiffel Tower print

If blogging has shown me anything, it's truly how picky I am or maybe have become.  When I started I had a point and shoot and truly knew nothing about photography.  Thanks to practice, research, and Jessica's blog series I've become more seasoned.  That doesn't mean I don't have off days though.  I went out and scouted a location for these photos only to have the weirdest lighting ever.  I tried several angles and each photo looked more off than the last.  Since I had to get home to my husband and baby, I just went with it and went on my way.  If this had happened just a year ago I would've either taken my time or gone at a better time or day.  Priorities have changed so these ones went up.  I do look forward to doing a much better remix in the future though :).

Eight Months

It's true, my little angel is eight months old today!  Lots of new milestones to report.  First off, she's standing now.  It's absolutely terrifying considering our entire ground floor is hard wood or tile.  She's already had her share of bumps from all the exploring she's done.  While it's still scary, I'm getting used to the fact that I can't hover over her all the time.  She loves to stand against the table, her walker, and especially her crib.

Bianca 8 months 095

Speaking of her crib, she's finally starting sleeping in it!  While she hasn't spent an entire night in there, she usually gets up between the 1 and 3 in the morning.  I'm hoping she will eventually sleep long enough to stop her night feedings but we just aren't there yet.  I'm in no rush.  The more she eats, the more healthy weight she gains.

Bianca 8 months 037

I've been having lots of fun this past month with her food.  She is much more familiar with chewing now so she often gets little bits of things I eat.  She really loves turkey, cheese, and pears.  I'm still giving her mostly pureed food but it's nice to have more options.

Bianca 8 months 059

Teething is still a huge issue.  Bianca now has eight teeth.  The minute one pops through, another starts to bother her.  I have a feeling it won't stop until she has the full set.  I feel bad because it seems like she's always uncomfortable.  Let's just hope she either gets a break or she grows them all quickly!

Bianca 8 months 071

My little monster starting babbling more too.  Her favorite is "bababa" but we've heard her also switch to "mamama".  Does that count as her first word?  I would love to have mama come before dada!  I think it's just wishful thinking...

Bianca 8 months 047

I'll be taking her to the photo studio for some nine month shots.  Maybe by then we will have some pictures of her standing on her own :).  I have a feeling she will be walking before her first birthday.  Bianca, stop growing up so fast!

Balancing Act

Emily and Fin dress

I'm not one to complain much on my blog but geez, life has been exhausting lately.  Bianca is teething (as always) but she's crankier than ever.  Unless she's in my arms she is screaming.  She's never really been like this so it's kind of throwing me for a loop.  I feel like I haven't had any time for myself, and after so many days you kind of go crazy.  Thankfully, pretty dresses like these give me some sanity.  Sammi let me borrow this dress and I definitely wore it on multiple occasions before I had the time to photograph it.  I think I might have delayed it subconsciously so I could keep it just a little bit longer :).

Roundup: Floral Prints

I actually didn't realize how much I loved wearing floral prints until I peeked into my archives.  Let me say, this isn't even all of it!  Floral prints are great for all seasons and add a certain feminine touch to an outfit.  I'm excited to take my floral dresses and layer them for the (slightly) cooler months ahead.  Bring on the cute cardigans!
