Baby Shower Recap

First off, sorry for being so absent from the Internet lately.  Life has been more than a little crazy and I've barely had enough time to catch my breath, let alone blog.  Anyway, this past Saturday was our baby shower with our friends.  We decided to host it at our house because we never had a "housewarming" get together and figured we could combine the two.  I'm lucky enough to have three amazing and crafty girlfriends who not only planned the activities, but decorated my house for the shower as well.  While the entire ordeal was a complete whirlwind, I managed to take just a few pictures to share with you :).  I hope you enjoy!

Love this man (and this dress!)

The backyard was also decorated with cute pink accessories but I was much too consumed with hosting to take pictures.  I completely regret it now!  I couldn't imagine a more perfect day and I'm going to remember it forever :)

Pregnancy: Week 28

I've finally made it into my third trimester!  With delivery only twelve weeks away (approximately) I'm finally starting to feel like the end is near.  Which is actually a little daunting because I feel so unprepared!  Not emotionally, but I feel like there are so many things we need to buy to make B feel comfortable when she arrives.  I guess most parents never feel completely prepared, but my OCD self wants to get as much together as possible.

I'm still feeling pretty great most of the time, but I'm starting to feel the effects of having a bigger belly.  Simple things like doing your own pedicure or tying your shoelaces have become virtually impossible.  Getting dressed is becoming more of a challenge too.  I still haven't invested in any more maternity clothing since my initial purchase at ASOS and I plan on keeping it that way.  So I'm getting pretty creative with the dresses I own and I have high hopes for these next couple months.  Wish me luck!

Little miss B is doing great as well!  I probably won't be having another ultrasound so I won't have any new pictures until she is actually here.  But she is more active than ever!  She likes to start kicking me awake at 4:30am on the dot.  Luckily that's only about fifteen minutes before I actually get up for work so it doesn't bother me... most days.  I learned how to count her kicks just to make sure she's doing okay.  And in case she's being a little lazy, I just have a glass of orange juice to get her moving again.  Maybe I'm the most morbid person ever, but I've done enough C-sections to know that babies are constantly born with their umbilical cords wrapped around their necks.  While it's common (and doesn't interfere with the health of the baby), I want to make sure I keep track of her movements so I can detect any fetal distress.  Becoming a mother completely turned me into a basket case and this is just one of the several things that pass through my crazy head.

My first baby shower is in four days!  I'm really excited to have all my friends over to celebrate our new home and our baby.  While we have had company over, we haven't thrown a party this big in... well, ever!  It's been a little on the stressful side but I have some great friends and siblings helping us along the way.  I am sure it's going to be memorable :)

I think after the 30th week I'll start updating more often.  We're getting close to the home stretch and I want to make sure I document everything.  Since we may not have more than one child I need to make the best of this pregnancy!

My Fall Wishlist

Maybe I'm being a bit of a premature scrooge this holiday season (can you believe it's around the corner?) but I've already told my friends and family that Kevin and I won't be participating in any gift exchanges this year.  A lot has changed since the year before: new home, baby on the way, and more expenses than ever.  While I'm normally pretty stressed during this season, I think it would be overwhelming to buy gifts for everyone this year. So instead of hoping someone else would buy me these things, here's my personal list of must haves that I'm (eventually) going to gift myself!

Okay, so this may even be next season eventually.  While this coat is a little on the expensive side, it's the most perfect thing I've ever seen.  I just need to have it in my life and the sooner the better.  I don't have much (if any) plaid pieces and this would be the perfect addition.

At this current stage in pregnancy peplum anything is out of the question.  That still doesn't stop me from wanting this striped top though!  It's actually been on my wishlist since last winter but I've never gotten around to purchasing it.  I think it would be perfect to wear with pants or even a cute pencil skirt.

howhaveyoubeanie

I love a great slouchy hat and this one is pretty much the cutest one I've ever seen.  I'm not one to carry an umbrella so wearing a cute beanie like this would be much easier for those rainy days ahead.  I really wish I could knit, I think this would be a fun project!

promotingelegance

I don't care how many striped dresses are currently in my closet, there's always room for one more!  I love the polka dots combined with the stripes and I think it would be a great dress to pair with some colored tights.  It would be the perfect New Year's Eve outfit :)

thewheelthing

I already have two other faux leather jackets and neither of them cost more than fifty dollars.  One of these days I want to buy the perfect fitted leather jacket, don't you think this one is lovely?

What's on your wishlist?  Am I the only crazy person who has one this early?  At this point I don't think I'll be treating myself to all these items but I guess that's what wishlists are for!

Happy Friday!

Peace of Mind

redtights3

So I'm officially 29 weeks which means that most of my wardrobe is off limits.  While anything with stretch is probably going to last me these next 11 weeks, most of my dresses have zippers.  When I'm feeling adventurous I like to try on these fitted pieces and see which ones I can still wear.  Thankfully, this black dress made the cut (just barely).  It's a great dress to wear in the cooler months because you can pair it with pretty much any color tights.  Oh, and I totally still wear these heels.  They're probably the most comfortable platform shoes I own.  I just have to be careful when I'm wear them around my dogs, I'm sure I could do a lot of damage with them!

Remix: Striped Dress

If you've been following my blog for awhile, you've probably seen this dress more than a few times.  I first saw it on Jessica of Midwest Muse last fall and I knew I had to have one of my own.  The blue and white stripes were exactly what I wanted in a nautical themed dress.  I ended up getting a Modcloth gift card for my birthday (thanks bro!) and snagging one for myself... Except when it arrived, it was in black and white!  Not going to lie, I was totally disappointed.  Of course I had to tell Jessica what happened and she kindly reminded me that I could borrow hers whenever I wanted.

A couple of months ago Ruche had a pink version on their site.  I was lucky enough to get the very last one!  It might sound a little weird to have one dress in multiple colors, but for the price, the quality of the fabric is wonderful.  This dress can be worn in any season and you can see how we did so below:

You can click any of the pictures to see the entire post.  If you're interested in this dress for yourself, I found that the black one is still available on Modcloth HERE.  And of course, I had to add a photo of us together :).  I've gotta say, blogger friends are the best kind!

Lessons Learned

orangedress8

While I'm usually pretty awesome at buying clothes online (I've only had to return something for bad sizing once!) this particular dress got the best of my judgement.  When I first found out I was pregnant I went a little crazy at ASOS and bought three maternity dresses.  Two out of the three were a little large but workable.  This number, however, was a tent.  FYI, maternity sizes reflect your pre-pregnancy size so don't size up like I did.  I know they have free returns but it takes forever and I'm quite impatient.  So I took a little tip from Midwest Muse and belted the tent.  It worked!
