Dapper Day Essentials

Dapper Day is upon us and it's time to get your outfit together!  Thanks to your help I've already picked mine, but here are some picks for your last minute ensemble:

I'm all about a statement dress but I feel like Dapper Day is the perfect time to take it up a notch.  I love the idea of wearing a cute hat or fascinator with your dress.  Since you're outside most of the day sunglasses are a must!

Nothing finishes off an outfit like a cute brooch!  I love Erstwilder brooches because they're high quality and equally as cute.  I actually got the "Pigs Can Fly" brooch in the mail yesterday and I plan to wear it on Saturday.

Spiderwebs

I absolutely could not wait until Halloween to show off this beauty.  I wouldn't dare to keep this hidden for that long!  Like I've said before, I don't actually like Halloween but I can't get enough of anything inspired by it.  This skirt had been on my wish list for a very long time and I finally purchased it on Pinup Girl Clothing's Friday the 13th sale.  Just like any of their house brands, the quality is superb and the cotton is nice and heavy.  Perfect for all kinds of weather and it's pretty much impossible for the wind to get a hold of it.  I don't know about you but that's always a huge concern for me in southern California!

Orange You Glad

I've had this dress for a few weeks but was waiting for the perfect time and place to show it off.  About twenty minutes away there are miles of orange groves along a scenic highway.  So I loaded Bianca and my mom into the car for the mini road trip.  There was way more traffic than I anticipated but we somehow made it work.  I also took a few oranges for the ride home.  Overall I'd say it was worth the frustration but I don't think I'll do it again soon!

What's On My Radar: Current Loves

I absolutely love spring.  The weather is wonderful, pastels and florals are all over the place, and many beautiful clothing collections are released.  I've been saving and waiting for many of these pieces and I want to share my favorites in this post today.  Here's my spring wish list:

Pinup Girl Clothing has some amazing pieces coming out this spring.  I want pretty much everything from their Mary Blair collection.  I also had the honor of trying on their Nancy dress a few weeks ago and it's a dream!  The Ava dress now comes in a swing style and in pink.  It's like they can read my mind...

Heart of Haute

I've been talking about this for months but I'm anxiously anticipating Heart of Haute's new collection.  The arrival of the Mercedes dress, the new floral prints, and the new kid's line!  I can't wait to get my hands on that castle dress for Bianca.

Of course, Modcloth is bursting at the seams with spring ready looks.  While my closet is mostly dresses, I'm looking into spring-worthy separates to add to it.  I love that pink gingham skirt, I have a feeling you'll be seeing it soon :).

Although Rebel Circus has a lot of black/punk clothing, they have a great selection of spring styles too.  I'm always impressed with their selection of Voodoo Vixen items and I love that they also carry some of the Sourpuss kids line.  I can totally see Bianca wearing that dress!

What A Spectacle

Let the red dresses continue!  Valentine's Day is over but I'm still hung up on dressing the part.  This Voodoo Vixen beauty comes in both a swing and a wiggle version and I'm sure it's no surprise I chose the swing.  Besides the full skirt, it also has little cap sleeves which really won me over.  The cateye glasses print is adorable and kind of fitting.  I found out last week that I need reading glasses.  I guess I'm finally catching up with my age...

Everyday's the Fourteenth

In theory, Valentine's Day is a cute idea.  It's a reminder to cherish the one you're with.  Kevin and I have never really celebrated this "holiday" for many reasons.  I think we both find it kind of dumb, plus his birthday is just four days after and our anniversary is on the first.  It's just a lot of celebrations at once.  That doesn't mean I don't like to dress the part!  I picked up this dress at work because I love the cut and the tulle overlay.  It comes in several colors but this burgundy version is my favorite.

My Forever Galentine

I love Galentine's Day.  For those of you who don't watch Parks and Rec (why?!) it's this Friday, February 13th.  It's all about celebrating the women in your life.  I love the concept because I'm pretty sure I have the most amazing women surrounding me.  Whether it be my sister, my friends, and obviously Bianca, I'm pretty sure I'm the luckiest lady alive.  Lately I've been thinking about traditions to start with Bianca and Galentine's Day will definitely be one of them.  She's going to learn early on that she doesn't need validation from a boy to enjoy a holiday!

Pleased In Pacifica

Yes, it's February but it's sundress weather over here.  I was kind of hoping I'd be able to break out more cardigans and maybe even a coat this winter but I've had no such luck.  I actually had to talk myself out of purchasing a pink Hell Bunny heavy fur lined coat the other day (with no help from my mom).  While I've wanted it forever, it would just collect dust with the other pretty coats in my downstairs closet.  I walked away from the store, impressed with my discipline but feeling a little bit of regret.  I hate that!

Nevermore

I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed lately.  Bianca's had a fever for the last two days due to teething and our old man chihuahua Rocco had to go to the vet.  His good eye is swollen and it turns out he has particles in his lens.  I was referred to an animal eye specialist, but I was given some ointment to help with the swelling.  So I've been tending to a cranky baby and hovering over a chihuahua every ten seconds to make sure he doesn't scratch his eye.  It is exhausting!

Iced Coffee Bettie

It feels great to be back!  I wasn't away from my blog for long but I can't remember the last time I had a weekend without updating it.  I worked all weekend and also celebrated my second wedding anniversary with Kevin.  We're huge foodies and decided to go to one of my favorite restaurants on the planet, Capo.  Kevin had never been but I've been talking about their grilled calamari and pesto gnocchi for about five years now.  He loved it!  Added bonus: Al Pacino was sitting right behind me so Kevin had a fantastic view of two people he loves oh so very much.
