Let the red dresses continue! Valentine's Day is over but I'm still hung up on dressing the part. This Voodoo Vixen beauty comes in both a swing and a wiggle version and I'm sure it's no surprise I chose the swing. Besides the full skirt, it also has little cap sleeves which really won me over. The cateye glasses print is adorable and kind of fitting. I found out last week that I need reading glasses. I guess I'm finally catching up with my age...

I'm going to be real honest right now. As you may already know, I've been on a quest to eliminate heat styling from my hair routine. While I've become pretty happy using sponge rollers, I can't get it to look good after the second day. This poses as a problem because I only wash my hair every 3-4 days. Obviously I need it to look decent until the next wash. What does my hair look like after day two? Well, take a look. It's crazy frizzy! As someone with baby fine hair I've never had this problem. I've tried using hair lotions and oils but nothing works. So if any of you ladies have any advice, I'd love to hear it!

I wish I could help on the heat styling thing but without heat my hair is completely unmanageable... :S in fact, it probably defines the word frizzy. Without heat, I am nothing... heh. Anyway, I hope we get to see you in some cute glasses soon - I bet they're going to suit you! And I love this VV dress - the print is just brilliant. The cap sleeves look fab on you - I'm always scared this kind of thing is going to cut into my arms! CC x
ReplyDeleteAww thank you :). I still have yet to find the perfect frames. I never realized how hard it was to find one!
DeleteWahhh you look so gorgeous! I love this dress on you, and it makes me like this dress wayyy more than I did before! I think your hair looks really pretty though (and unfortunately, my hair is super thick and I've never done non-heat styling, so I have no advice to give). <3

Thanks Sammi! If I ever get this routine down I'll let you know what I did!
DeleteYou have seriosly been killin' it lately. I mean oozing sexy all over... that sounded creepy but dang girrrrl!! You are smokin'! That white dress that you were wearing on IG the other day was so beautiful!! You hair has been perf lately too!

Thanks so much!
DeleteGorgeous! I love the dress :D Have you tried getting it a little damp and maybe putting it back into rollers for half an hour? The frizz happened a lot to me.. sometimes I'll braid the curls before bed.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm I've never tried that before! I'm going to try it now, thank you!
DeleteI spray my hair damp with a spray bottle before bed and just re-roll it overnight. No need to add extra styling products if you've already used a mousse or setting spray on day 1. There's a "curl cream" product you can buy here which I've heard is good for reviving curls but I've never tried it and wouldn't know where to buy it in the US, sorry!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think I'll be looking into a new curling cream. That may be my problem. Thanks for the advice!
Deletesuch a classy dress, dear :)

Thank you so much!
Deletebumble and bumble hairdressers invisible oil. works great, not greasy and you only need a tiny amount so it lasts forever. :)
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh thank you!!
Delete1) you look amazing, I almost got this dress and now you have me wishing I had!
ReplyDelete2) You could definitely re-roll it every night after you dappen it a bit OR you could do what I do and stick it in a ponytail and throw sponge curls in your slightly damp ponytail OR my other favorite lazy day trick, sleep with your hair in a sock bun and you'll wake up with really soft curls when you take it down. <3
Well you know you can always borrow it :). I tried the sock bun and it looked all janky LOL! I'm going to try the ponytail next. Thanks for the tips!
DeleteHoly crap this dress is amazing and you look amazing in it! I love when you wear red. It just looks so great with your purple hair. Everything about this dress is wonderful from the glasses print to the cutouts. As for your hair, I'm not sure I can help. I'd just go over it with a large barrel curling iron to smooth things out but that obviously won't work if you don't want to use heat! You might be able to gently brush out the curls to make that 40s style wave look too.

Awwww thank you Jamie! I've slowly been adding more red to my closet. I think I might just have to settle for the wave, haha!
Deleteokay so what you o to have it last longer than two days or to survive for two days is to tease it after you get it out of the roller and use some pomade. Then you spray it up good. It should stay. I have had hairstyles last for 4 days when I did more retro stuff. I miss that but I have become a minimalist and have all my clothes in one drawer now. One day perhaps I can have a pretty dress to wear again but I got rid of the majority! I'd love to borrow some of yours haha.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. You are beautiful.

Thanks Victoria! I will definitely try that. Wow, I can't believe you have just one drawer now. I applaud your minimalistic lifestyle!
DeleteUgh. Too fabulous. I'm really impressed by how versatile your purple hair is - I feel like I've seen you rock it with so many other bright, bold colors, and it always looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'd second the recommendation to dampen and reroll it, although I know that can be a bit time consuming. It looks like the front is keeping its shape well, so maybe easy updos would be helpful when you don't have time to reroll it.
Thanks so much Jessica! I try to wear whatever and not think about my hair.... Unless it's the exact color purple.
DeleteThat's also a great idea! I never wear my hair up but I guess now is a good time to play around with it.
I love the open detailing on the front of the dress!<3
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of hair do you have (straight, wavy, curly)?
I have wavy/curly hair and its frizz-city on the first day, even after brushing properly. But it settles in nicely on the second day, it's weird.
You should try using some hair serums with aloe vera to help with the frizz. :)

I have extremely stick straight baby fine hair. Thanks for the tips, I think I'll try a new product :)
DeleteOh, I love this look so much!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristian!
DeleteAhhh yes, YouTube. Why haven't I explored that yet? Thank you so much! I'm a sucker for a good cap sleeve!
ReplyDeleteI think for me, if I do pin-curls instead of rollers, my hair tends to hold better and look better on day two. My hair is so long now though that I haven't been able to do non-heat styling in a while (not enough pins!). Sock curls (strips of cloth to roll your hair and tie) also seem to work pretty nicely; my cousins do that a lot, and their hair always looks pretty on day two, too. I think mostly, not brushing it as much on the second day... and you can use a very, very small amount of coconut oil (take the tiniest bit, rub it in your hands until there's just a light sheen, and then very, very lightly slide it over your hair) to help de-frizz. I've been doing no-shampoo method since the 11th, and that's my go-to for de-frizzing without having it be super oily or falling flat.
ReplyDeleteAnyway! You look stunning! I adore red on you; I think it is probably one of the most flattering colors with your beautiful skin and coloring, and the print of the dress is so cute, and the cut! Just gorgeous.
This dress is so amazing! You look so pretty!
