Monet

Selkie The Monet Day Dress

I've been obsessing over Selkie for some time and they've completely won me over with their new Day Dress style!  While they're famous for their classic puff dresses, the puff is much too short for everyday wear and the organza material in the California summer is *horrendous*.  The Day Dress is made in a crisp cotton which is perfect for all seasons and the length is just right for me.  This dress is easily my new favorite style and I can't wait to tell you all about it!

Selkie The Monet Day Dress

Selkie The Monet Day Dress
Dress- Selkie

The Day Dress is a cottagecore dream that features a corset-style bodice, a square neckline with a bow in the center, lined puffed sleeves, and a below-the-knee length skirt.  The sleeves have extra fabric so they keep that puffed up shape and the dress is finished with a back zippered closure.  I'm wearing a size small, which is my usual Selkie size.  It does give a little with wear but I wouldn't advise sizing down (like with other cotton Selkie dresses).  I also have the Day Dress in Citrus Trip print in a size XS and I find the fit just a little more restricting but not by much.  Basically, go with your usual size!  This Monet print is absolutely lovely and it was the perfect match with my pink bruja hat.  My only gripe is that this dress does not have pockets.  I would give it a perfect score if pockets were included!

The Day Dress is *extremely* popular and usually sells out within minutes.  I know they're bringing this print and many others back later this year so your best bet is to follow Selkie on Instagram to get all the info on restocks.  This dress is made in sizes XXS-5X and is ethically made in China.  While their items are on the pricier side, they're worth every penny to get a beautiful, high quality product and support an inclusive, woman-owned small business.

Do you own any Selkie dresses?  How do you feel about them?  Let me know in the comments below!

Berry Best

Sarsparilly x Strawberry Shortcake Berry Best Friends Dress

There are two things I love more than anything else when it comes to fashion: a puffy sleeve and a great collar!  Luckily, this Sarsparilly dress has both!  Their newest collaboration with Strawberry Shortcake is giving off all the 80's/90's kid vibes with classic prints and vintage inspired styles.  I instantly fell in love with this entire collection and the sparkly collar from this Berry Best Friends dress instantly caught my eye.

The Berry Best Friends dress is made from a sturdy cotton sateen that has a bit of stretch.  It features a print of Custard and Pupcake tending to their strawberries, perfect for any animal lover!  This dress is a classic 60's style with a strawberry-adorned collar, puff sleeves with velvet heart buttons, a pleated mini skirt with deep side pockets and a back zippered closure.  I'm wearing my usual size XS in Sarsparilly items and I find the fit to be extremely comfortable.  This entire collection is available in sizes XXS-4XL and while some sizes have sold out, make sure to sign up for the Sarsparilly newsletter to find out when the restocks go live!

Last weekend Bianca went on a weekend trip with her grandma... Her first trip without her mom.  She had so much fun and I was a sad sack the entire time.  I missed her so much!  She's getting older and becoming more independent and I'm just trying to get used to that idea.  She's my only kid and while I'm proud of her for reaching important milestones, I'm also internally mourning the little girl that once was.  Being a mom is filled with so many emotions and I've been experiencing them all simultaneously!

Stargazer

Kitschy Witch Designs Stargazer Box Pleat Circle Skirt

Feeling all kinds of love for the new Stargazer print from Kitschy Witch Designs.  I've been eyeing this print since Stephanie previewed it many months ago and it's finally here!  The Stargazer collection features a new dress style, skirt, scarf, and a bag... in case you wanted to astrologize (that's a word, right?) your entire outfit.  I decided to review the new Marie dress and the circle skirt and long story short: they're both amazing!  You can read the full review below!

The box pleat circle skirt has made its return with a few adjustments.  It now has a little more room (so check the size chart before you buy) and a two button closure on the side for a better fit.  This skirt is super full!  It's made in a crisp, heavyweight cotton sateen, has box pleats that fall beautifully when worn and deep side pockets.  It's definitely a midi length, I'm 5'6" and falls well below the knee.  I am wearing a size XS and the fit is absolutely *perfect*.  I wear a size small in the Return to Oz version but because of the new fit I could size down to an XS.

The new Marie dress is absolutely darling.  This dress has thin adjustable spaghetti straps, ruching at the bust, a gathered a-line skirt with deep side pockets, and a back zippered closure.  It's made with the same fabric as the skirt so it has a heavyweight feel with a considerable amount of stretch.  I'm comfortably wearing a size XS in this dress and I'm usually a small in most other clothing brands.  While this dress in the Stargazer print is almost sold out, the Marie is also available in the Twenty Thousand Leagues and Wunderkammer prints!

You can find the Stargazer collection exclusively at Kitschy Witch Designs!  All their clothing is made here in the USA and are available in sizes XS-3X.  Find amazing, well-made products and support a small woman-owned business in the process!

Summer Witch

Southern California Belle Target Wild Fable Black Floral Sun Dress

The temperature here has been nothing short of miserable and I've transitioned my wardrobe to light and comfy (but still cute) outfits.  I've been trying to find pieces that reflect my personal style while still being functional and this dress definitely fits the bill!  I like to wear it while lounging at home but it really dresses up with a pair of cute sandals and a summer (witch) hat.  Plus, at $25 you really can't go wrong!

Dress- Target

This adorable floral dress is made from a light rayon fabric and features a slight puff sleeve, keyhole tie detail at the neckline, stretchy ruched waist, and a tiered above the knee length skirt.  You can slip this dress right on and feel like you have a complete outfit!  I traditionally wear a size small in most clothing and I opted for a medium since this is dress is in junior's sizing.  This dress is available in sizes XS-2X and is available in two other colors, in case you don't love black as much as I do.

The family and I are heading over to Disneyland on Saturday for the first time in over a year!  This is probably the longest we've been away and while I'm excited, I'm also just worried about the way things are now.  I've heard lots of horror stories about crazy lines and no space to sit down but I'm trying to put those stories aside and just enjoy my time there.  We're also going to check out the new Avengers Campus at California Adventure and I literally cannot wait!  Here's to hoping we have a good time and it's not too terribly hot!

Rainbows and Chill

Sarsparilly x Care Bears Rainbows and Chill Dress

Can't help but feel extra cheerful when I'm wearing a dress with the Love-a-Lot Care Bear on it!  If you've read my last post, I told you I'd be back with another amazing piece from the Sarsparilly x Care Bears collection.  The Rainbows and Chill dress is the perfect retro inspired piece with modern features.  And unlike most true vintage, this dress is also available in inclusive sizing.  Take a trip down memory lane and get nostalgic with me!

Sarsparilly x Care Bears Rainbows and Chill Dress

The Rainbows and Chill dress is made from a soft but sturdy cotton sateen.  It has a bit of stretch but still conforms to the body nicely.  This lovely piece features thin yet adjustable spaghetti straps, a fitted bodice, a massive gathered swing skirt with deep side pockets, a back zippered closure, and a matching rigid grommet belt.  It has an all-over print of shooting stars and the most cheerful border print of Love-a-Lot bear on a rainbow.

As for fit, I would highly recommend sizing down.  As I've mentioned in previous posts, Sarsparilly does run a full size smaller than your usual size.  Since I am usually a small, I always take a size XS in Sarsparilly dresses.  I find the fit to be quite comfortable!  It's definitely one of those dresses you can throw on and go about your day or really dress up for a fun vintage inspired look.

You can check out the entire Sarsparilly x Care Bears collection HERE.  All the pieces in this collection run from sizes XXS-4X.  Please note that prices are in Australian dollars, so make sure to use their currency converter!  While these pieces are definitely an investment, they're worth every penny.  The quality is top notch, the sizing is inclusive, and you're supporting a wonderful woman-owned business!

Love and Sunshine

Sarsparilly x Care Bears Love and Sunshine Top and Shorts

Getting ready for summer the best way I know how: with cute and functional pieces!  As an 80's baby, I grew up with the Care Bears and I'm so happy that Aussie brand Sarsparilly teamed up with them for a clothing collection.  Sarsparilly is well-known for their amazing quality and one of a kind retro styles.  I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the matching peasant top and shorts, I couldn't handle the cuteness! Scroll down to read more about this nostalgic collection and these beautiful pieces!

Sarsparilly x Care Bears Love and Sunshine Top and Shorts

Sarsparilly x Care Bears Love and Sunshine Top and Shorts

Sarsparilly x Care Bears Love and Sunshine Top and Shorts

The Love and Sunshine top and shorts are made from a soft and cool cotton sateen.  It has a little stretch to it and is perfect for the warmer months.  The top has elastic along the neckline and sleeves and is finished with a cute bow at the neckline and a side zippered closure.  The shorts have side pockets and a back zippered closure.  The print features a classic Cheer Bear frolicking in nature.  Now that I think about it, that's probably why I love the print so much!

As for sizing, I'm almost always an XS in Sarsparilly clothing (I'm usually a small in most other brands).  I'm wearing an XS in the top and a S in the shorts.  I think I *might* have been able to take an XXS in the top but I'm perfectly happy in the XS.  As for the shorts, I was truly in between sizes.  The XS fit but was just a little snug in the thighs so I wore the S, which was just a little large in the waist.  I'd much rather have taco room than be a little uncomfortable so I'm happy with my picks.  That being said, I'm quite hourglass shaped and if you don't have a big waist to hip ratio like me, I would go with your waist measurement.

You can shop the entire Sarsparilly x Care Bears collection HERE!  Just an FYI, the prices are in Australian dollars.  They have a currency converter on their website and they offer AfterPay (my fav!).  When you purchase from Sarsparilly, you're supporting a woman-owned business and you're guaranteed the best quality.  Seriously, I'm always impressed with their pieces!  Keep your eyes peeled here on my blog, I'll be reviewing another piece from this collection soon!

Clone Trooper

Collectif 1950s Black & White Colorblock Enora Swing Dress

If you're a Star Wars fan you love this week more than most!  May the 4th be with you is a fun little pun and a great time to Disneybound as your favorite characters.  As much as I love the Resistance, I've always leaned more towards the Galactic Empire.  As soon as I saw this dress at Unique Vintage, I knew I needed to use it as a Stromtrooper dress!  While I won't get back to Disneyland until June, sporting this retro inspired version of a Stromtrooper is bringing me all the Disney magic right now.

This dress is from the UK-based company Collectif, which I'm quite fond of.  Their quality is top notch and this Enora dress is no different.  It's made from a rayon type of fabric, so it's perfect for the extreme heat I'm used to here in Southern California (and believe me, it was *hot* when I took these photos).  As usual, I wanted to put a retro spin on this Disneybound and I added some fun heels and a wide brim hat.  I can see myself wearing this all summer and transitioning it into a spooky outfit this fall too.  I love it when I can wear a piece over several seasons, don't you?

While Star Wars week is coming to a close, you can always expect to see lots of Star Wars content on my Instagram year round.  Speaking of which, what's your favorite Star Wars movie?  Mine is Empire Strikes Back but Rogue One takes a very close second.  I want to hear your answers in the comments below!

Spring Witch

Cottage Core Forest Witch Dress

When you're excited about warm spring weather but you still want to keep to that witch aesthetic...  I feel like I have two very different but very strong loves: sweet and ethereal and dark and witchy.  I know most people like to stick with one but I constantly go back and forth.  You can literally see it in my closet!  I have a massive black dress area and a just as massive frilly, pastel section.  Since I'm in my 30's and pretty confident in my sense of style, I refuse to pigeon-hole myself and pick one.  So before I step off my soapbox, just know that you can dress any way you want and it doesn't matter if you mix and match styles.  Personal style is just that: personal!  Now onto this amazing outfit...

My BFF Sammi of The Soubrette Brunette sent me a link to this dress because she has an orange-hued version and I was totally smitten.  This dress is from Amazon, which I normally would not advocate for but couldn't resist.  I actually have the Free People original in sky blue, which is obviously much better in quality but is no longer sold online.  This dress was $30 and honestly, a great deal for such a pretty dress.  It comes in my different colors and is available in sizes XS-XL.  I find the sizing pretty generous because the entire bodice has elastic shirring, so if you're not super busty you could easily size down.  While it doesn't have pockets (boo), it's made from a very light cotton, has en empire waist and is fully lined.  I love that I can just throw this on and go about my day!  After over a year at home, I've realized I'm much more happy when I'm comfortable and not when my waist is snatched into oblivion.

This dress is now my spring witch dress because who am I if I'm not trying to live my life as the witch in Hansel and Gretel or (my favorite) the Baba Yaga?  I'm trying to resist getting it in another color but we'll see if I can control those impulses...

Tulle Cupcake

Unique Vintage Pastel Ombre Tulle Cupcake Swing Dress

As someone who lives and breathes fashion, I love it when I *feel* a certain way about a piece of clothing.  Sometimes it's about comfort, other times it's purely for the decadence.  As you can probably already tell, this dress has everything to do with the latter.  This Unique Vintage dress was the first thing I wanted to put on after I got my first vaccine yesterday because, for the first time in a long time, I was just so happy and hopeful for the future.  After a year of fear and uncertainty, this frothy cupcake dress was exactly what I needed to brighten my spirits!

The cupcake dress is basically exactly what you'd expect: lots and lots of ruffles, a painted-on bodice, adjustable straps, and a back zippered closure.  As with most 1950's style vintage prom dresses, I love how form fitting it is on top and voluminous it is on the bottom.  Unfortunately, there aren't any pockets but I'll give this one a pass since it would be nearly impossible to add them into this style.  I'm wearing my usual size small and it's pretty much the perfect fit.  I *might* have sized up for bust room if I didn't like a tight fit but I think y'all know I'm more than okay with that!  This dress is perfect for a Sisu Disneybound and is pretty much the reason why I picked it.  If you haven't seen Raya and the Last Dragon yet, I highly recommend you watch it on Disney+!  The whole thing is super cute and the Asian representation in the story and the actors who play them is amazing.

This dress is available in sizes XS-4X and if you're not cool with loads of pastel colors, it's also available in emerald, navy, and a black floral.

Islands In The Stream

UV_Dress

The temps are way up here which means it officially feels like spring (although it's technically hot enough to be summer in some areas)!  I can't remember the last time I was excited to peel off the layers and enjoy a sleeveless outfit but this pandemic has me feeling nostalgic for *everything*.  The new Western Collection from Unique Vintage just launched and it has me channeling my inner Dolly.  I gotta say, I'm not mad about it!

UV_Dress_3

UV_Dress_4

UV_Dress_2

This fringe dress is an adorable homage to western style with matching fringe on the bodice and the skirt.  It also features spaghetti straps that are adjustable and removable, as well as a back zippered closure.  I'm wearing a size small and the fit is absolutely perfect.  I love the addition of brown accessories to break up the all black outfit but it honestly looks fabulous on its own.  The only thing I wasn't too jazzed about was the lack of pockets.  As a woman in 2021, I feel like all our dresses should have them!  But like most of their clothing, this dress is available in sizes XS-4X (which is super important).  You can check out the rest of the Western Collection HERE.

I wore this outfit to a park that was the former home of a western movie star.  Until the pandemic, you could even take a tour of his home.  I've taken the tour many times and I'm a huge fan of the fact that he had a bedroom just for his dogs.  They even had their own human sized beds!  Now his property is a landmark and the farm animals that live on his land are taken care of too.  Bianca and I visit all the time and we love to spend time there with the animals.  She even helped me take these photos!  I have to say, seven is a good year (even if I don't want her to grow up... ever).

Sleepy Hollow

La Femme En Noir Sleepy Hollow Gothic Tales Toile Skirt in Grey

We're already heading towards the end of March, I've been working/teaching from home for over a year, and I still have the will to get dressed... every once in awhile.  I was all too excited when I found out that La Femme En Noir was releasing a collection inspired by Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow.  I remember watching the movie in the theater and being so inspired by the costumes.  This creepy toile print is perfect when you want to be a little more subtle with your love for the macabre, don't you think?  I'm sure nobody noticed from six feet away and I don't think I'll be getting any closer to anyone in this skirt until after I'm vaccinated!

The Gothic Tales skirt is made in a stretch cotton jersey fabric and features a dropped waist, large hidden side pockets, and a back zippered closure.  Due to the fabric, this style definitely runs large!  I'm a true size small in almost everything and I'm comfortably wearing a size XS in this skirt.  While most sizes have sold out already, this amazing print/fabric is also available in a wiggle and swing dress.  I've had the swing dress in my cart forever but I'm unsure if I could justify two pieces in this print.  What do you think?

You can explore and shop the rest of the Sleepy Hollow collection (seriously, it's so good) on the La Femme En Noir website right now.  The entire collection, in addition to everything else they offer, is ethically made in sizes XS-4X.  Shop their fantastic pieces and support a woman-owned small business in the process!
