Poker For Puppies 2019

Dawg Squad Poker For Puppies
It feels like a lifetime ago, but at one point my blog wasn't all fashion/personal style centered.  I talked about things like my everyday life and things that really meant a lot to me.  While fashion is definitely one of those things, it doesn't compare to my love for animals in need.  Over eight years ago, I adopted my first dog from Dawg Squad.  My little boy Punchy, or Fendi as he was originally named, was a young little chihuahua who was literally discarded by someone and then taken in by Dawg Squad.  Like all their dogs, Dawg Squad kept him with a wonderful foster, took care of all his medical needs, and didn't let him go until they found the right family for him.  Since then, I've adopted three more dogs from them and have tried to stay active with the organization ever since.

On Sunday, April 14th, Dawg Squad is hosting their 7th annual Poker For Puppies event.  The event is exactly as it sounds: you get to play poker and contribute to Dawg Squad's amazing cause!  Not only will an epic poker tournament take place, there will also be a casino lounge, silent auction, lots of adorable adoptable dogs to love on, celebrity players, a DJ, appetizers, dinner, and Sub Zero ice cream!  There are thousands of dollars worth of prizes this year, including:

  • Universal Studios passes
  • Southwest Airlines tickets
  • A trip to South Africa
  • Electronics
  • Gift Baskets
  • Gift Cards
  • And so much more!

The event is taking place at the Sportsman's Lodge Hotel in Studio City, California.  I used to live down the street from this hotel and I love this event space!  The doors open at 2pm and the poker tournament will start at 3pm.  You can purchase tickets HERE but here's a quick overview:

  • $100 for entry fee for the poker tournament
  • $50 general admission entry

You have to be at least 21 to attend and the parking is free.  Not in California or busy the day of the event?  You can still sponsor Poker For Puppies; whether it's a cash or prize donation, sponsoring a casino game, the bar, or even the presenting sponsor at the event!  You can email Carole, the event coordinator and woman behind Dawg Squad, at DawgSquad@rocketmail.com.

Check out some pictures from last year's event below!

Viva Las Vegas 20

Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend 20 Trashy Diva Annette Dress in Carnival Print

Every year (around Easter weekend), vintage enthusiasts scramble from all over the world to The Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas for one thing: Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend.  2017 was Viva's twentieth year and they definitely went big!  Because we couldn't pass up such a wonderful event; Kevin, Bianca, and I packed up our best outfits and spent our Saturday at the Car Show.  Thanks to Trashy Diva, we were perfectly dressed for the show and ready to hand out discounts to the many Divas who attended!  It was so much fun running into friends, making new ones, dancing to live music, and taking in the endless rows of classic cars.  I'm already itching to go back!

Vegas Strip Outfit:

Although it was quite hot, the three of us had such a wonderful time.  Bianca enjoyed meeting all of "mommy's friends" and making a friend of her own, Wynter.  There were so many vendors with both vintage and reproduction goodies, but I was good and stuck to window shopping and socializing.  There was a Trashy Diva meet up in the middle of the day and it was so great to meet all the gorgeous Divas in person!  The ladies of the Trashy Diva Facebook groups are so positive and inspiring, you almost feel like family.  Needless to say, it definitely was the best part of my day.

I wore the new Annette dress in Carnival print from Trashy Diva and it was the perfect choice for the outdoor event.  Because it's made in a cotton voile, it was light and breathable.  The Annette is fully lined and features adjustable straps, a gathered circle skirt, massive hidden side pockets, and a back zippered closure.  The Carnival print was a total eye-catcher and I had people stopping me constantly to ask if it was vintage.  The Annette is in my top three favorite cuts from Trashy Diva and I hope there are many more on the horizon (I must have them all)!

Since it was Bianca's first trip to Las Vegas (and first trip outside of California), we decided to have some family time on the strip.  She loved the Excalibur castle, I'm sure you can imagine why.  She was also intrigued by the slot machines at the casinos.  She didn't really grasp why she couldn't play with them, so I just looked like a mean mommy as I carried her away, haha!

I can't wait to go back Vegas, and more specifically, look forward to Viva Las Vegas 21!

Bianca's 2nd Birthday

Well, my little baby turned two on Friday.  We decided to take her to her favorite place, Disneyland!  Before hitting the park we had breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel, which was wonderful.  The characters come right up to your table and let you take pictures with them, which is so much better than waiting 45 minutes in the park to meet your favorites.  Bianca had her first experience on the teacups, Peter Pan's Flight, and the Enchanted Tiki Room.  She also got to see the barn animals at Big Thunder Ranch for the last time, as it's being removed for the new Star Wars themed area (so bummed about that).  She fell asleep in the early afternoon so we decided to make this trip short.  Since we have annual passes, I'm sure we will be back in a few weeks.

We finished off the day with a delicious homemade birthday cake from my mom.  I'm so happy we got to enjoy this day together and make her birthday special!  I've attached some photos from our favorite moments of the day below.  I don't usually post personal photos on here but I feel like this occasion was worth it!

It's going to be hard to top this birthday next year, but I have another 363 days to plan it out!

How To Make Your Vintage Inspired Wardrobe Office Friendly

While I may not technically have a dress code at work, I understand the struggles when trying to make your vintage/vintage inspired wardrobe work for everyday life.  I also work at the Pinup Girl office, which means my outfits are similar to my usual ensemble but tweaked a bit for comfort.  I know every office is different and some of these might not work for you, but here are my tips for getting the most from your wardrobe!  P.S. All the examples below were actual work outfits.

- Comfortable shoes are must (but don't have to be boring!).  I have a ridiculous amount of basic flats for everyday wear, but they tend to be anything but exciting.  I love my lace up flats from Pinup Girl Clothing and my Mandalaye flats from Jessica Simpson.  They're comfortable and great for a casual work environment.  If your office is a bit more dressed up, I'd recommend anything from Bettie Page or Chelsea Crew.  Their heels are incredibly comfortable and work perfectly with a retro inspired wardrobe.

- Cardigans are your friend.  Depending on your office situation, many necklines/sleeveless tops and dresses won't be appropriate.  That's why a cardigan (or an arsenal of them if it's my closet) are the perfect solution.  I prefer a cropped cardigan because it doesn't take away from the silhouette of your outfit.  Pinup Girl Clothing and Modcloth have a generous assortment of colors to match everything in your closet!

- Skip the petticoat.  As much as I love a big full skirt, it's just not practical at the office.  When I wear a dress or skirt to the office, I'll wear an underskirt (like this one HERE) with a full skirt or opt for a more demure a-line skirt.

PUG ootd

- Dress down your fancier wiggle dresses.  I'm kind of new to wiggle dresses and pencil skirts because I rarely wear them outside of date nights.  I recently decided to get more wear from these pieces by styling them casually to work.  Again, cardigans are your friend and a pair of flats can completely change an otherwise "fancy" dress.

PUG ootd

- 3/4 sleeve tops are the perfect staple.  If you enjoy skirts as much as I do, then you're constantly on the hunt for a great top to wear with them.  I really love 3/4 sleeved fitted tops because they're office appropriate, comfortable, and stylish.  The Sabrina top from Pinup Girl Clothing (pictured above) is a wonderful top that comes in an assortment of colors.  A budget friendly option is the Boatneck Tee from Target, which also comes in varied colors and prints.

Do you wear your vintage or vintage reproduction pieces to work?  What are your tips for keeping your wardrobe office friendly?  Let me know in the comments below!

At Home: My Dress Closet/Guest Bedroom

Room Makeover

I promised to update you on the transformation of my dressing room/guest bedroom this week and here it is!  While it's still a work in progress, I'm much happier now than I was just a week ago.  Kevin and I have very different design styles, so I couldn't wait to have free reign over this room.  I wanted something bright, colorful, and calming to the eye.  Check out the progress below!

Bianca's First Birthday

I'm so excited to share these photos with you!  Bianca's birthday party was perfect.  We had a great turnout and most of all, Bianca had the time of her life.  I couldn't have asked for a better day.  Although I don't think I'll be planning such a large party for her second birthday.  It was a lot of work!
