Botanist

Trashy Diva Stork Club Short Dress in Botanist Southern California Belle

It's official: the warm weather is here and it's time for lightweight fabrics! I usually gravitate towards my Trashy Diva pieces in the summer because they're great for the heat and fit in with my vintage aesthetic. They've recently released their new Botanist collection and I knew I had to add a piece to my closet. It's a perfect summer print and this stork club short dress allows me to feel covered *and* cool.

The stork club short dress is made from flat rayon and features a square neck bodice with bust gathers, banded waist, short keyhole sleeves, a gathered knee-length skirt with hidden side pockets and a back zippered closure. Unlike stretch rayon, this fabric has no stretch. I waffle between a size 4 and 6 in Trashy Diva dresses so I chose the 6 due to the fabric. It was a firm but comfortable fit. If you're between sizes I would highly recommend going with your bigger size because many people feel like this dress runs small. I love that this dress feels sexy but I can wear a normal bra with it. As much as I love Trashy Diva, many of their cuts in the last few years have deep necklines and I've had to pass on them because they're unwearable for me. The stork club is a perfect vintage inspired dress that makes me feel beautiful. I hope we see more in the future!

The Botanist collection is available in sizes 0-24 and contains five dresses, one romper, two tops, one pair of shorts, and a wrap scarf.

Treasured Forever

Trashy Diva 30s Sport Romper in Pirate Treasure Southern California Belle

Feeling a bit nostalgic today thanks to this Trashy Diva romper. If you're a fan of this brand, you'll remember that they released Pirate Treasure six years ago. It's my favorite novelty print they've ever produced and I have multiple pieces in it. Well, they decided to bring it back and I couldn't be happier! To celebrate these new cuts in my favorite print, I revisited the place where I shot the original version (you can read that HERE) and was instantly reminded why I treasure Pirate Treasure so much.

Romper- Trashy Diva

This version of Pirate Treasure is produced on my favorite fabric of all time: stretch rayon. The original version was on flat rayon, which provides no stretch. In the post-pandemic world, I reach for stretchy things almost always so I'm glad they decided to make the change for the reprint. The colors look exactly the same so you can mix and match your pieces from the original run.

I chose the 30's sport romper from this collection because it was a new (to me) style and totally different from what I normally pick from Trashy Diva. It has breast pockets, a zip front bodice, flirty above the knee length shorts with pockets and a matching belt with bamboo buckle. I waffle between a 4 and a 6 these days and checked out some reviews from the locals who tried this collection on in-store before settling on the 6. The 6 was a great fit for me! The bodice was long enough that it wasn't uncomfortable, which is usually the case with my extra long torso and rompers. While I feel like I could have taken a 4, the extra length in the bodice is what I needed and can easily belt the waist for that tailor-made look. Overall, I love the 30's sport romper and I feel like this will be a staple in the summer!

The new Pirate Treasure collection is available in four dress styles, two rompers, a caftan, four tops, a pair of pants, a blazer, shorts, a turban headband and a scarf. There's something for everyone! Some styles (like this romper) sold out but they're holding preorders for sold out sizes and styles. Make sure to check out the entire collection HERE!

Hollywood

Trashy Diva Butterflies and Begonias Hollywod Circle Dress

Happy Friday!  Even though this week was short because of the holiday, it felt so long.  The weather is hot, the days are long, and (for the most part) we're stuck inside.  My family and I make sure we get some outside time every weekend and I was pleasantly surprised to find one of my favorite parks has now reopened!  I made sure to wear one of my favorite Trashy Diva pieces, the Butterflies and Begonias Hollywood circle dress, to compliment the gorgeous outdoor surroundings.  My BFF Sammi from The Soubrette Brunette also styled the same dress for our posts today!  We may be on opposite coasts, but our style is always on the same wavelength :).

Trashy Diva has been making many versions of the Hollywood dress for years now but the Hollywood circle is my absolute favorite.  What sets it apart?  The longer length full circle skirt!  I'm 5'6" and can't wear minis so the length is perfect for me.  As someone with very wide hips, I appreciate the full skirt too.  Every Hollywood dress has the ruffle sleeves that can be worn on or off the shoulder.  As you can see, Sammi wore hers off the shoulder and I wore them up.  While I usually wear them off the shoulder, I wanted to showcase how different the dress looks when you keep them on.  It's like having two dresses in one!

The fabric of the Butterflies and Begonias collection is flat rayon, which means it has no stretch.  The bodice of this dress has shirred panels on the bodice which allows some stretch, but the waist will remain firm.  I went ahead and got my larger of my usual Trashy Diva sizes (4) and I found this dress to be the perfect fit.  I've heard from others that the dress seems to run small so I would recommend taking your larger size or sizing up for a comfortable fit.  You can find this dress in sizes 0-24 online right now!  If you're not a fan of the dress but love the print, there are many different pieces (including shorts and separates) to choose from.  Oh, and they offer AfterPay too so you can shop now and pay it off later!

Have you shopped with Trashy Diva lately?  What are your favorite pieces? Let me know in the comments below!

Butterflies and Begonias

Trashy Diva Butterflies and Begonias Carmen Midi Dress Penny Dress

I can't remember the last time I posted a mommy and me blog and I've missed them so much!  Now that we're in the days of Instagram (aka instant gratification) I usually post these kind of pictures over there.  But Bianca, now six, indulged me in some Mother's Day pictures in our matching Trashy Diva sets.  Trashy Diva released their newest print, Butterflies and Begonias, last week and I have to admit: I am obsessed.  I haven't loved a print this much in quite some time and they've included a little girls dress version so I went nuts!  You can read all about the Butterflies and Begonias collection below!

Butterflies and Begonias is a beautiful floral print that features royal blue, grey, mint, and teal colors with yellow butterflies on a very warm red (close to orange) background.  This collection is printed on a flat rayon, which means it has no stretch.  I chose the 1930's inspired Carmen midi dress, which is a newer style that features half sleeves with open slits on the side and elastic cuffs, a crossover bust, banded waistband, and a midi length gathered skirt with hidden side pockets.  The back of the dress plunges down pretty low so I was unable to wear my normal bra, but I think I could have hidden it if I tried.  In Trashy Diva dresses I'm always between a 2 and a 4 and because of the non-stretch flat rayon, I went with a 4.  The 4 is the perfect fit!  It's nice and fitted but not tight enough to make me feel uncomfortable.  I also purchased the Hollywood dress in this print, but I'll save that review for another day.

Bianca is wearing the Penny dress, which she initially had in the fan-favorite Steel Magnolias print when she was a baby.  I'm super happy to see this style return because I love the ruffles and the tie-back waist.  She's six and usually wears a 6 or 7 in girl's clothing.  She's wearing the 7/8 in this dress and while it fits, it's definitely quite short on her.  I'm wondering if I should get the 9/10 for length?  Either way, she loves it and I'm so happy she still lets me twin with her!

Butterflies and Begonias is available in several styles (including separates!) in sizes 0-24.  Make sure to shop while you can, this print is very popular and you'll be supporting a woman-owned small business too!

Sci Fi Rockets

Trashy Diva Annette Dress in Sci Fi Rockets

I'm super excited about this post for two reasons: I'm wearing my absolute favorite dress and my BFF Sammi from The Soubrette Brunette is wearing it with me!  Okay, well not literally, but we arranged this post to show you how we styled our very special dresses.  And to nobody's surprise, we styled it almost exactly the same.  I started laughing when I saw her pictures!  As Sammi says, even when we're thousands of miles apart we are still on the same wavelength.

The Annette dress from Trashy Diva is one of my favorite styles.  It's super easy to wear, it's figure flattering and it has pockets!  This particular print, Sci Fi Rockets, is from 2012 and is quite elusive.  I had been searching for this dress for years before I found one in my size a few years ago.  The fabric is a stretch cotton and it's seriously so perfect for summer.  I haven't picked out my 4th of July outfit yet but I have a feeling this dress is going to make another appearance this week for the big celebration.  You can check out how Sammi styled hers below!  She also blogged about her outfit in depth, which you can read about right HERE.

I'm hoping we get to do some more BFF style posts in the near future.  Now that I've gotten into a groove in my work schedule, I feel like I'm better equipped to plan these things with Sammi.  But let's be real, I'm more hopeful that we'll get to take outfit photos together again soon.  It's been way too long since we've spent some time together and I need another girl's trip!

If you're a brooch lover like me, you probably already know about Deer Arrow.  This super popular Australian brand was started by two sisters and still remains a homemade brand.  Everything is made in Australia in small quantities, so you truly have a special piece of jewelry.  Deer Arrow just released a new collection (literally right this minute) and I feel so honored to show you some of them!  Check out my newest additions below:

Sailor and Skipper

Trashy Diva Sailor Dress Rockabilly Baby Skipper Dress

I don't think I'll ever get enough of Trashy Diva's Rockabilly Baby collection.  Made to match with your very own Trashy Diva pieces, Rockabilly Baby provides a high quality and ridiculously cute option for your little ones.  At this moment (like, literally right now) Trashy Diva released this Sailor dress and matching Skipper dress.  If you're a longtime fan, you'll notice that the Sailor dress is a new colorway from their original navy version.  This red hue is a fresh way to resurrect a much loved style and I'm so happy they opted to include a Rockabilly Baby version as well!

Bianca's shoes- Oshkosh

The Sailor dress is made from a stiff yet light and comfortable stretch cotton and features a collar with white trim, removable navy sash tie, fitted bodice, lightly gathered circle skirt with hidden side pockets, a cutout back feature, and a side zippered closure.  This dress drapes quite well on its own but I chose to wear a petticoat for that 50's nautical look.  While there is a cutout in the back, you can definitely wear a normal bra with it (as long as it isn't a racer back style).  I'm usually between a 2 and a 4 in Trashy Diva dresses and I tried both sizes on in this style.  The 4 was much too roomy in the bust and waist, so the 2 was the perfect fit!  If you're between sizes like myself, I'd definitely recommend taking your smaller size.

The Rockabilly Baby Skipper dress is made from the same fabric as the Sailor dress and features the same collar with white trim, removable navy sash tie, full gathered skirt with a matching white trim detail, and a side zippered closure.  In typical mommy fashion, I ordered this dress a full size larger for Bianca (she's currently a 5/6 but shes wearing a 7/8 in the Skipper dress) so she can grow into it and wear it for years.  While I do consider it big, it's still wearable as is.  She loves this dress so much, she even pulled it out of her closet to show it off to a friend not too long ago!  I guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree...

The Sailor and Skipper dresses are an instant hit for this matching duo and I can't wait to see what my fellow fashionable Divas think of them!
