Forever Changing

Pinup Girl Clothing Red and Brown Harlequin Jenny Skirt 002

I got this skirt at the Pinup Girl Clothing yard sale a couple of months ago and this is the first time I've worn it.  While I was really excited to put it on, I realized that it's now a little too big for my waist!  I've never felt both really happy and absolutely crushed at the same time.  I have a mini pile of dresses that need to be taken in but I'm scared to get them altered.  Is that weird?  I feel like something is going to go wrong and someone is going to ruin my perfect wardrobe.  I realize I have some odd issues but I also see that my wardrobe needs to fit my body.  I've had more than a few great recommendations so I'm crossing my fingers that my experience with the tailor goes well!

This has been somewhat of a rough month for me and my family.  We've dealt with everything from death, bad medical news, to sleepless nights and so on.  It's easy to get discouraged but I've been doing my best to keep a good outlook on life.  I really hate to even used the word "blessed" (aka the most overused word ever), but I've been staying positive by thinking about all the great things I have going on in my life.  I will forever be thankful for the opportunity I have to stay home with Bianca and watch her grow.  Don't get me wrong, it's one tough job, but I know that I wouldn't want it any other way.  Just thinking about it puts a smile on my face!

  1. You can't even tell the skirt is too big, but that's always heartbreaking (especially since I remember you said you brought a tape measurer and everything!). I actually don't blame you for being nervous to bring stuff to a tailor... I've actually had stuff ruined, so it definitely can happen. The tailor in question actually took things in TOO much (in the chest area) so that there's really no way for me to wear them now. But it seems like maybe you got some good tailor recommendations from friends, and I think that's definitely the way to go. Getting something tailored isn't cheap, so if there's good word of mouth, I think everything will be peachy keen.

  4. I totally agree with you..alterations are nerve wracking! Especially when you are putting them in someone else's hands. That skirt is very lovely, though, and I love it with that top!

  6. Sorry to hear things have been bad - hopefully on the up now. I've never had a tailor disaster but I generally just take stuff to get shortened... I've got a skirt with a slightly too big waist too, but like yours, no one looking at it can tell! So I've decided I might just live with it... That top you're wearing, by the way - I've been looking for one like that for ages!

  7. Ah, I have so many skirts to alter, too; although, I get my mom to do it for me, which is less scary than using someone you don't know! That skirt looks gorgeous on you, though!
I'm sorry it's been a rough month! I can relate completely. We've sadly been dealing with the same things (my grandma's death, news that I need major dental work, which... I guess isn't medical so much as just yuck, and Asa not sleeping through the night again...) and it's so hard to stay positive. But I'm glad you're looking for the bright side of things! It will get better. <3

  12. I'm sorry to hear about your rough month :/ Life has its ups and downs I guess. You are looking gorgeous in that skirt. The pink diamonds compliment your hair so well! And I too am scared to take a few of my higher end pieces to a tailor. Remember the dancing horses dress I got at the yard sale in XS? The waist is a tad tight and I've been putting off taking it in because I'm SO scared they'll ruin it, haha. Let me know if you find a good tailor! And hope everything else life-related becomes easier soon.

  15. I'm sorry about the rough times you're going through. It always seems like things hit all at once, like a ton of bricks. But I'm sure things will get better, they always come back around.
Love this outfit, that skirt is so gorgeous. That's one print that I really wanted, I wish I could make it to one of PUG's awesome sales. If you've got a few pieces you need altered, maybe take a less precious piece to a tailor you'd like to try out to make sure they're up to snuff?

This skirt is such a beauty! and I know it is neck racking giving some of your favorite clothing pieces to a tailor! you def need to trust them before you do it! but I'm sure they will do a great job! I'm also sorry to read you had a tough month, sadly we all do sometimes! but those just make us appreciate the good ones! and good ones will come for sure! Thanks for sharing!

  19. I can't tell that the skirt is too big but I know how annoying it can be to wear a skirt that's even slightly too big in the waist. This is such a cute one too. I'm sure it'll be fine when you take it to get altered!

I hope the upcoming months are much better for you! I'm sorry this past month has sucked so much. It sounds like things have been hectic. I admire you trying to look at the bright side!

  20. The skirt look amazing! I love these darker colors on you!! You can't tell it a tad too big so that's good but I am super excited for you that you see a change in your body. It exciting and crushing (as you said) at the same time. Good for you though! I'm sorry to hear it's been a rough few months... hang in there, it seems like you have a good support system. I hope things get easier for you little darlin'.
