Pregnancy: Week 34

34weeks

Is it over yet?  That's pretty much the attitude I've had lately.  If you haven't caught up with my blog, I've actually been contracting for a few weeks and I'm currently on medication to stop them.  While I'm still pretty far along, it's just much too early for this little girl's arrival.  Thankfully, my contractions aren't squeezing baby B enough to change her heart rate.  So while it's uncomfortable for me, baby is doing fine!

34weeks2

I officially have one week left of work!  My current condition almost put me in the hospital or on bed rest, but I have been lucky enough to keep my word and work until December 6th.  I guess some people would just want to take the time off but I have the big picture in mind: the longer I work while pregnant, the longer paid time off I have with my baby.  As for now I'm scheduled to return to work in mid May but I'm actually unsure whether I'll return part time or at all.  Being a first time parent is scary!  We don't know what our financial situation will be like with another human to feed so we just have to wait until she's here to really gauge how much I'll need to work.  I'm a very protective person so the idea of childcare really scares me.  I don't even like people watching my dogs, imagine how I would feel giving my daughter to someone?!  Hopefully everything will work out and I won't have to worry about it :)

My family baby shower is on Sunday and I'm very excited!  My mother in law has put everything together and I can't wait to see what she has in store for the day.  I haven't seen a lot of my side of the family in quite some time and my sister is home from New York city.  Can't wait to spend some time with her too!

My nursery is nearly complete.  The custom closet is almost finished and I just need to purchase some curtains for the room.  I keep saying I'm going to show you some pictures but I want to wait until it looks perfect.  I promise I'll have some up soon!

As for now, my January baby is probably going to show up in December.  I was born at the end of December so it will be interesting to see when B decides to arrive.  I'd prefer later than sooner but I'm ready to have her with us.  I'll make sure to keep the updates coming!

xoxo

  1. You're looking gorgeous! I can definitely relate, those final weeks are so hard. Hopefully those early contractions mean you'll have less work to do when the birth finally rolls around.

Maybe you should start looking into private child care? I don't know the situation over there, but here in Australia its not uncommon for stay-at-home mothers to care for other kids in their home. Many are qualified child carers and are first aid certified and all that. Its cheaper than a nanny and might be more comfortable for you and your little one than a conventional daycare.

  2. You look stunning as ever, which is wonderful to see with all the crap your body has been putting you through the last little while. I'm glad the contractions aren't causing anything more serious, but that sounds incredibly uncomfortable and painful. Hopefully the little lady stays put a little longer!!

  3. Oh, wow! You are handling everything so well! So impressed and amazed. That time with your baby is going to be so special.

You know, I went to both a babysitters and a daycare and to this day have a relationship with those people, especially the sitter and her family (whose house we went to everyday) who are like an aunt and uncle to my sister and I. So I guess, like Amber Jade suggested, maybe looking at other stay-at-home adults might be an option to keep in the back of your mind in case for down the road. Wether you stay at home or expand your support system with some child care help, I'm sure it will be the right choice for Bianca (and you)! So excited for you and Kevin starting on this adventure!

  9. I'm glad to hear she's still cooking, but I'm sorry you've been having a tough time! I'm with you on working as long as you can to have more time afterward. I'm thankful that my mom will be doing my childcare - if she wasn't, I don't know that I could go back to work either, I totally understand those feelings! I hope things keep looking up and she stays put for a little while longer! You look great!

  10. You look so pretty and you don't even look like she's ready to be here soon. I hope you have a nice family baby shower and that once she's here you might be able to be a full time mommy blogger :)

  13. If you can afford the privilege, it's important for little ones to have a parent at home and to receive in-home care. If you do decide you need some help, please consider an in-home nanny. I hope you feel more comfortable soon!

  15. I thought my January baby was going to be born earlier than his due date. . .but he was a week late and was born Feb. 2 at 9 lbs 14 oz. hehehe. . .now you understand why I thought he'd be much earlier with all that weight he had. . .looking twice as huge as the other babies in the nursery in the hospital. . .while my 2nd was born a week earlier than his due date weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces (he'd be just as big as his brother if I went a week late). Go figure. Your baby will come in time! hehe. It is always nice to think they'll come earlier. It has been fun watching your week by week growth. I am glad you don't need bedrest! Keep those feet elevated and go for walks! Hope you do end up giving birth in December. My little one is a late December baby (22nd, he was due the 29th).
