Pink Poodle

Bernie Dexter Beatrice dress in Pink Poodle print

I can't believe this is the first time I've featured this dress on my blog!  I've had it for awhile but I've been waiting for the weather to warm up enough to wear it without a cardigan.  I'm always hesitant about dresses with a shelf bust, probably because it's a little more of a risque neckline than I'm used to.  I feel like the pretty pink poodle print balances it out which is why it's still in my closet.  Even though it doesn't make sense, in my mind prints will always win over the cut!

I've been expending my horizons when it comes to petticoats.  I tend to be really picky about them and I enjoy the look of a stiff crinoline.  Unfortunately, I can't walk around comfortably at home with one on.  Either the dishes on my coffee table tumble to the floor or poor Bianca gets knocked over.  I was hesitant to try the canvas underskirt because it's shorter than most petticoats, but I was hopeful because I needed something that was less cumbersome.  This was the first time I had worn it and I was pleasantly surprised.  Even though it's short, it has tiers which prevents that visible harsh line.  It's much easier to walk in and can be worn for a long period of time.  It still doesn't provide the perfect shape of the stiff crinoline, but this is a worthy of everyday wear.

While Amanda of Junebugs and Georgia Peaches and I don't necessarily agree on our favorites, she has a super informative post regarding petticoats and the different types which you can read HERE.  As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments below!

  1. Hmmm.... I'm really trying to picture what a canvas petticoat would look like (not that I think you needed to have shown us! But, is it like the canvas one in June and Amanda's post you linked to?) Is it comfortable?

At any rate, it must do its job well because you look like a million bucks in that outfit. The cut is very lovely on you and I think the print and color do tone down the shelf bustline.

    1. Yep, it's the exact same one. It's the most comfortable of all the petticoats I own. I wore it for ten hours yesterday!

      Thanks so much Kristian :).

  2. Gorgeous on you just like all your other Bernie dresses! Do you take the same size in all Bernie styles or do you size up for the shelf bust styles such as the paris dress?

    1. Thank you! This Bernie is in my regular size but you could comfortably size up. As for the Paris style, I wear my regular size just fine. It's actually more roomy than this style!

  7. I love this Bernie dress on you! I own the exact same one, :) I love mine, even though it's a little tight around my waist!

  8. This dress looks amazing on you! I think this neckline looks great and definitely isn't overly revealing. I've never seen a retro style dress that didn't look amazing on you though. The print on this one is super cute too.

  9. Oh I love this dress and this post. It's like I was sent a sign. Been looking for a petticoat that's not too OTT for a wedding and I bought a lindy bop Daria midnight dress and had no idea where to start on the petticoat area, all I know is I needed one! This pug petticoat seems like the answer thank you so so much! X

  10. So pretty! And I totally get the hesitancy about a shelf bust; I don't like showing cleavage at all, and I LOVE the way this type of neckline looks but it's too showy for me! Which is sad, because it's such a feminine and flattering neckline. The pink looks so pretty on you, too!
