Baby Came Back

Retrolicious Modcloth Houndsleuth dress

This dress is both old and new.  I bought it about two years ago, excited because I had wanted it for such a long time.  It was a bit snug but I made it work.  It collected dust in my closet until after Bianca was born.  In a postpartum depressive state, I hastily sold it because it wasn't even close to zipping up at the time.  I regretted that decision ever since.  I scoured the internet for months until I found a used one in a size up.  It was a miracle!  This one is a little loose but I'm just happy to have it back in my closet.  I'll never take this dress for granted again!

Cardigan- Modcloth
Shoes- Chelsea Crew (similar)
Tights- Forever 21

I was really hesitant to post these pictures for a very specific reason: I'm wearing tights.  It's unfortunate and absolutely creepy, but almost every outfit I post on my blog that includes tights ends up on tight fetish websites.  It's actually something I've been dealing with for years but I've never mentioned here.  To be honest, it makes me feel violated when someone uses my photos without my permission on a non fashion blog or site (even if they credit the source).  It makes it a million times worse when it's on a fetish site.  I hate that I have to think twice about posting certain outfits because of the idea of my pictures being stolen from me and used for disgusting things.  Because I'm involved in such a positive blogging community, I often forget that the internet can be a really dark and scary place.

I had to write this post in advance because yesterday was Bianca's first birthday party.  I'll write a separate post about it once I get the pictures back, but I can say that I've never worked so hard on anything for anyone before.  She was worth it!  Although she won't remember, I'll have the memories and she'll see the photos that were taken.  She deserved a special first birthday and I hope she enjoyed it as much as we did.

xoxo

  1. The tights fetish people have recently been stealing all of my photos too :( At first I was excited to see a site was sending me lots of traffic, then I worked out what it was. It does make you feel violated, but I try not to think too much about it or it's upsetting. Living in the UK, virtually every outfit I ever wear I'm in tights. And now I've said that, I'll probably send even more of these people to my blog. Ugh. Anyway, if you let people like this change the way you behave and what you want to do then it really is a very sad thing. So for that reason, I'm glad to see you in the outfit you wanted to wear. And it's such a cute outfit - a dress with sausage dog print on it is a special thing indeed :) CC x

  3. OMG the tight fetish sites have been using mine for most of the length I've been blogging. I wear tights A LOT in pretty much all seasons except summer. One time I had this man e-mail me asking about my tights and being really weird. Apparently he was a cross-dresser or something, but then I looked up the e-mail and found a dating profile that said he was some 30 year old dude and I don't know. I got weirded out. I also always get creepy messages and comments on Flickr for some reason. It's really unfortunate and annoying that these things happen. I wish there was something we could do about it. :\

    1. So what's weird is that I was in Walmart today and this man came up from behind me and said "That's a gorgeous pair of tights you got on there"..... WHAT. THE. FUCK.

    2. Ugh, I'm so sorry Sara! What the heck is wrong with people?! The fact that someone came up to you IN PUBLIC to say something like that truly disgusts me. I would've punched him! I've actually disabled comments on my Flickr for that very reason.

  5. Mmm, that is too bad that the actions of others have made it so you have to consider whether you want to share an outfit. I'm glad you did though- it is fun and I love this printed dress so much (I have this dress too but it is hard for me to style; thanks for some inspiration!)

  7. Wow, it's just so creepy that there are people out there ruining the fun of these fashion posts. I have yet to come across this problem but now it's going to make me more aware. So thank you for mentioning it!!! May I ask how you became aware that someone stole your pictures? Did someone tell you?

Anyhoo on a more positive note, I love your outfit. It's adorable! I wish I had gotten that dress when it was still at modcloth too! Drats! Thankfully I occasionally come across things I missed out on on eBay.

    1. Thanks Heather! I actually noticed the sites when I was checking my Google stats. I kept seeing some weird sites so I did a bit of investigating. It's important to keep up on it!

  8. Hooray for getting this ultra cute dress back! I love the colors you styled with it and I think these tights are really cute. I'm glad you didn't let the weirdos change what you wanted to post. Believe me, I get a crap load of traffic from those creeps. I find it's usually tights-centered fashion Tumblr blogs that are in turn frequented by tights fetish Tumblr blogs and the creeps repost the pictures from there. It's basically all of us so somehow that makes me feel a little better that I'm not singled out. You're not alone!

    1. You know, it makes me feel better too! I had a feeling you might be a victim too, I know you love tights just like me.

  9. Ew, that's so creepy. I'm so sorry. If any of my pics have ended up on such sites luckily I have never found out. I will prefer to live without that knowledge I think :-/ Sucks though and I'm really sorry you've had to deal with that.

  10. I'm glad you got this dress back (it must've been fate), and I absolutely love the tights you chose. Ugh to the tights fetish site stuff... I'm glad you're not letting it dictate whether or not you wear them on your blog though!

  11. Sorry your pictures are being used without your consent! That totally sucks. That used to happen to me when I would post outfit photos with tights on Flickr. I will say though that fetishists aren't necessarily gross - we all have different things that work for us BUT that in no way means ANYONE should be using someone's photos without consent.

In awesome news - you look adorable as always. I love that sweater!

  12. I love this dress! We had a wiener dog in high school and he was the cutest. If I ever venture in to dog territory again, I would definitely want another one! I'm glad it found it's way back to you. So freaking creepy with the tights fetish stuff! I was getting emails for awhile that totally weirded me out, but I haven't seen anything lately. I didn't even think about pics on the sites- ugh :/

    1. Yep, I've totally received emails/Facebook messages too. It's so creepy! Some dude even pretended to start a tights website to get my "input" What an idiot.

  13. That tight fetish thing is so messed up. I hate the fact that there seem to be some people out there that get off on the fact that the person they're getting off on doesn't know about it, or wouldn't want them to. I wish there were more protections for women online when it comes to getting that kind of stuff taken down.
But, on the positive side, this dress is great, and I'm glad you were able to find a new one after you sold the first one. "The dress that got away" is such a strange kind of regret, I can just imagine how happy you were to get it back into your closet.

    1. Ugh, I know. It's terrible. I wish there was more we could do too!

I also agree, the regret is something that stays with you!

  14. I can't believe people are using your images like that. I never knew about those websites before and I still don't fully know what they are but I do feel a little scared.

On another note, it is so lucky about the dress. The description of old and new is perfect. The dress is adorable. There have been so many dresses I've wanted in the past, just missed out on and so desperately wanted to track down but never can. Would be a miracle if I could. Enjoy your old new dress and I sure do love the way you styled it.

    Happy Birthday to Bianca!

    1. Yes, it's very scary because I would never consent to something like that!

I'm sure you know the feeling too! That's why sites like Ebay and Poshmark are so wonderful. It gives you that second chance!
