Open Book

I can't even tell you how long I've waited for this dress to make its way to my closet.  This Bernie Dexter dress is an oldie, but such a perfect piece.  I don't know for certain, but I feel like there was a very limited quantity of this dress.  Other than one or two Google images of Bernie wearing it, you can't find any customer pictures in this dress (except for Bristol, the queen of hunting unicorns).  Because of what seemed like an impossible chance, I put my energy towards finding one on the back burner.  Thankfully, a lovely Australian lady offered to sell me hers, brand new with tags in my exact size.  What are the chances?!  I can't thank her enough for thinking of me and sending me the epitome of a "unicorn dress"!

As a child, I was obsessed with reading books.  I had (and still have) a very vivid imagination so books were always my favorite place to spend my down time.  I was also obsessed with princess Belle, who shared my love for books and distaste for cocky men.  She's still very much my favorite princess and I'd like to think she would wear something like this... You know, if she were real.

I'm gearing myself up for what I'd like to call a lifestyle change.  Since before the holidays, I've been indulging in absolutely everything.  I could eat my weight in pizza and I'm starting to feel the effects.  While my metabolism is still fast, I don't feel good on the inside.  It's just one of those habits I need to cut completely, because I actually love making and eating healthy food.  So fingers crossed I get this healthy living thing back on track, because my next step will be much harder: exercising!

Grand Fleur

Fat Tuesday is tomorrow so I felt like I needed an outfit to celebrate!  I've only been to New Orleans during Halloween (which was crazy fun), but I really love how the whole city comes together this time of year.  I can't think of anything else quite like that here in Los Angeles, so I'm just going to live vicariously through my Louisiana friends and sport this super cute Trashy Diva number.

Yesterday may have been Super Bowl Sunday, but it was lady brunch time in my book!  I met up with Mary-Catherine from Monster Stewart and a bunch of other ladies for some much needed girl time.  We rarely get the opportunity to come together all at once, so it was quite a treat!  Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own life that I forget to stop and appreciate the wonderful people I have around me.  As much as I love my "lone wolf" lifestyle, feeling the positive energy of others actually makes me feel new and ready for the long week ahead.  I know I can't be the only one!

Yesterday was just one of those no good days.  No matter how hard I tried to go against the negative current, it just washed me away.  From a screaming toddler, to losing my camera remote (ugh, I'm super bummed about that), to not getting anything I wanted done, the entire day was just a mess.  My only saving grace was wearing this gorgeous Viva dress.  Because even if you feel awful, there's something about a beautiful dress that can lift your spirits!

As you might have noticed, I've been slowly incorporating more 40's style dresses into my closet.  I love the simple yet flattering silhouettes that you can just slip on and go.  Pinup Girl Clothing has some wonderful new 40's inspired designs, including this Viva dress.  It's made from a gorgeous pebble crepe, so it has a light flowing feel with a subtle texture.  This dress is also fully lined, which means it will maintain it's beautiful shape when you move.  If you're between sizes, I'd suggest sizing down due to the stretch in the fabric.  It's still in the coming soon section, but this dress also comes in black and red, which I'm hoping to resist.  But I have a feeling they'll have a place in my closet as well!

As I'm sure you're already aware, Valentine's Day is coming up!  While my husband and I don't do much of anything that day, it's fun to plan some outfits for the occasion.  I'm not really anti-romantic, but our wedding anniversary (which is today!) and my husband's birthday are within days of Valentine's Day.  So let's be honest, we have much more fun things to celebrate!  Doll Me Up has some perfect ensembles for this time of year, including this Siren dress.  I could not believe how comfortable this dress was.  I literally wiggled it on and went about my day!

Kevin and I celebrated our third year of marriage at a steakhouse on Saturday night, which means I'm still full from the amazing meal we had!  As much as I'd love to make today extra special, I probably won't get to do more than a nice cooked meal when he gets home from work.  I'm sure he won't mind though, after a day of work (especially on a Monday) I can hardly convince him to emerge from the couch!  It's all about the little things, right?!
