Makeup: Products For My Everyday Routine

It's been quite some time since I've done a makeup post, so I wanted to showcase some of my favorite everyday products.  I'm just as big a believer in skin care as I am in a pretty made up face, so I'm going to start from the perfect face mask and go through my full makeup routine.  Here we go!

My Everyday Makeup Routine

Step One: Face Mask
My Everyday Makeup Routine

Before I apply any kind of makeup, I make sure to care for my skin with a great face mask.  As a woman in her 30's who still struggles with acne, I feel like taking an extra ten minutes per week is essential.  Plus, it's almost therapeutic to give this time to myself.  I really love the Skin by Monica Olsen Dead Sea Clay Masque, but I don't think they sell it online anymore.  There are lots of similar products, including this version from Grace Stella.  I like to use this masque when my acne is particularly troublesome, but it's definitely a once a week kind of product.  You will see a difference in your skin once you start using it!

Step Two: BB Cream and Tinted Moisturizer

I don't actually wear foundation, but I've found the best and most natural results with a BB cream/tinted moisturizer combo.  I'm very fair skinned, so I usually go with the lightest hue available.  Garnier's BB Cream has a light feel with great coverage, plus it's quite cheap!  I then use Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturer on top.  I've been using this tinted moisturizer for years and I can't say enough good things about it!  It's a little pricey, but you only need a pea-sized amount per day so it can last a good six months.  If I'm going to some kind of event, I'll put on a primer (my favorite is from Smashbox) beforehand.  But since it's not an everyday thing, I didn't include it.  As you can see above, that is my "fresh faced" canvas before I start on my favorite part of my makeup routine....

Step Three: Brows

Your brows really determine your entire makeup "look".  I prefer what I'd like to call a "statement brow", which means I like a nice thick but structured shape.  I don't pluck, tweeze, or wax my brows because I barely have any eyebrows to begin with (naturally, thanks to my mom).  To obtain this look, I like to start with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer.  This product is meant to both line and fill in your brow, but I choose to line only.  If you don't line your brows before filling them in, you're missing out on a foolproof way to get the shape you want!  I don't try to freehand my brows simply because I'm just not that good, haha!  Once I get the shape I want (and I included a silly picture above), I then fill them in using Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo with their #14 Brush. I used to swear by their Dipbrow, but I find that I get a more natural and "brushed" look with the powder.  As always, if I'm going to some kind of event, I'll finish them off with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel.  Because this is an everyday look, I left it off.

Step Four: Eyes and Cheeks

My Everyday Makeup Routine

As a makeup enthusiast and not a makeup artist, I don't pay too much attention to my eye shadow.  I'm quite smitten with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Self-Made Pallet (which I for some reason cannot find online), only because it has lots of neutral glittered shadows.  I don't get too fancy with it!  As for liner: I love a good cateye.  My problem is being allergic to most products.  While I love a great liquid liner, I've actually had the best results and no allergic reactions with Anastasia Beverly Hills Waterproof Creme Color.  When applied with their Pointed Eyeliner Brush, I get the perfect shape with minimal frustration.  My newest mascara obsession (thanks to my MUA friend Erika) is L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Excess.  It's great at both thickening and lengthening the lash and at a great price point.  Again, if I were going to an event, I'd apply false lashes prior to my mascara.  My current favorite is Veour Silk Lashes.

Before I apply my blush, I like to dust my cheekbones, nose, and chin with my Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit.  It's the perfect illuminator without a heavy look and feel.  As for blush, I go between NARS Orgasm and Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush.  Both give a subtle hint of color and sheen.

Step Five: Lips
My Everyday Makeup Routine

Probably the most fun part of my makeup routine is picking out my lip color.  I've raved about Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks for ages.  They just released their spring line, which included Madison and Soft Lilac, two of my favorites.  I'm also a huge fan of their limited edition Candy Apple red, but Bloodline is a worthy substitute.  I can't get enough of their gorgeous colors and incredible long lasting wear!

  1. Great skin care is absolutely a necessity! No amount of makeup will make skin that is out of control look amazing. I love that you use BB Cream and tinted moisturizer for your face makeup for everyday use--I feel the milder coverage makes for a fresh and pretty look. The skin can really shine this way. Love it!!

  2. Your eyebrow techniques!! I can't for the life of me figure out how to fill mine in properly and I keep looking at the steps you called out and wondering how I'm going to not look like a clown trying this on myself.
