Floral Ribbon

Pinup Girl Clothing Pinup Couture Jenny Skirt in Floral Ribbon Print Heart of Haute Sweet Sweater in Black

I've been kind of obsessed with mixing my summer and autumn pieces lately.  I'm guessing it's because I see everyone's gorgeous fall outfits but it's still in the 90-100 degree range here.  I have some serious fall envy over here!  I've never actually worn this floral ribbon Jenny skirt until today but I love the idea of mixing these pastel colors with black.  It's the perfect way to transition this skirt into the cooler seasons instead of packing it away until spring.  I don't think I could wait that long to wear it again!

Although this skirt now comes in a petite length, I chose to go with the original.  At 24" long, it's perfect for my frame.  Some of my older Jenny's are 27-28", which tend to be overwhelmingly long.  I'm happy that the original version has now been shortened to 24" and the petite length comes in at 22".  It's truly couture for every body!

This week has been incredibly challenging for me.  In addition to home stress, I've had some personal turmoil which has really thrown my happy demeanor into a tizzy.  I'm trying to stay positive and keep looking at the future (which includes moving into our amazing new home), but I have to take it one day at a time.  I'm actually looking forward to a weekend at work, it's a nice distraction from the craziness at home!  Plus, I have the best coworkers on earth, so that really sweetens the deal :).

Sweet and Spooky with Besame Cosmetics

Like lots of other ladies, fall and the impending Halloween season is one of the best times of the year.  It kind of marks the beginning of the holiday season, which for me, can be kind of stressful.  That's why I take my Halloween fun seriously!  While wearing deeper shades might be expected, I wanted to create a sweet and spooky look with my Besame Cosmetics lipsticks.  If you're not familiar with Besame, they're a luxury makeup company with an eye for the vintage enthusiast.  I've been wearing liquid lipstick for years, so going back to a "normal" lipstick was a bit unnerving.  But when you have a beautiful, long wearing lipstick like Besame's, it makes the transition easy as pie!

Besame Cosmetics Lipstick in Portrait Pink

If you haven't read any of my previous makeup posts, I like to exfoliate my lips with Fresh Sugar Lip Polish and prime with Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer.  Once the primer dries, I line my lips with Besame's Rose and Pink Masterliner Lip Pencil.  I love that their liners are double sided, you get two for the price of one!  For this look I used the Pink side.

Besame Cosmetics Lipstick in Portrait Pink

Once my lips are lined, it's time to pull out the star of the show: Besame's Portrait Pink Lipstick.  Portrait Pink is a true replica of a color from 1963, which means it has that mid-century feel with a twist of mod.  I love that this pink isn't too pink, it has a rich enough pigment without giving me terrible high school makeup flashbacks.  While applying your lipstick straight from the tube is fine, I like to use their Travel Lip Brush.  It gives you more control over the application process, which is perfect for a novice like myself.  I also think it helps apply the lipstick evenly and keeps it there longer.  While I'll sometimes top off my look with a clear gloss, I feel like this shade does well on its own.

Besame Cosmetics Lipstick in Portrait Pink

To top of my sweet and spooky look I added my favorite vintage hair scarf and my Peasant Top in Spiderweb print from Pinup Girl Clothing.  I love adding elements of Halloween without making it the main focus of my look.  Spooky can still be cute, wearable, and vintage inspired!

Delores

Unique Vintage 1950s Style Mustard & Black Dot Delores Swing Dress

Yesterday was the first official day of fall and for once it actually felt like it!  The temperatures didn't rise above 80, which for us is quite cool.  Bianca and I took advantage of the lovely day by visiting one of her favorite parks.  She happened to meet a little boy there and they became fast friends.  After two and a half hours I had to peel her away from the park and her new friend.  I often feel guilty for not giving her a sibling, so I justify that choice by letting her play with other kids her age as much as possible.  I mean, so far it's worked out just fine!

While the Delores dress from Unique Vintage is a fan favorite, it's the first one I've ever owned.  I was really excited to try it!  I can't help but fall for a dress with polka dots and a mustard colored background.  It really embodies the fall season, which just so happens to be my favorite.  The fabric is a stretch bengaline, which is perfect for hugging your curves.  Since it has sleeves, it's important to have stretch fabric to not only accommodate your arms, but give you a full range of motion as well.  I'm always saddened when I buy a dress and I can't lift my arms up.  It's a total deal breaker!  While this dress is a little too low cut for my comfort, it's nothing a safety pin can't fix.  The skirt is quite full, but it doesn't need a petticoat.  I usually wear an underskirt with full bodied styles but the Delores looked perfect on its own.  I definitely understand why everyone loves this dress so much!

I'm looking forward to a work-free weekend with my family.  Our home is officially in escrow, so we're starting to get organized for this move.  I seriously cannot wait.  Our home is so perfect and beautiful, I can't wait to make it ours!  If everything goes as planned, we will start this new chapter in our home in November.  Fingers will remain crossed until our escrow closes!

Halloween Harlequin

Pinup Girl Clothing Pinup Couture Jenny Dress in Halloween Harlequin Print

This season is really hitting us hard with wonderful holiday prints.  At the top of my list was the Halloween harlequin, which is even more amazing than I had anticipated.  As a long time Jenny fan,  Halloween lover, and harlequin collector, this dress feels like it was conjured from my dreams.  I really have to make a conscious decision not to wear it everyday.  This beauty will not only make several appearances this season, but all year around as well!

This particular Jenny dress runs much smaller than my others.  I took a size bigger than my usual for the perfect fit.  If you're not familiar with the Jenny, it has boning in the bodice for structure, adjustable straps, a very full gathered skirt, and hidden side pockets that are big enough for you to leave your purse at home!  If you're not keen on the Halloween harlequin print, Pinup Girl Clothing offers this dress in tons of prints and colors.

Well, it's official: our house is sold!  After a whirlwind of a week (constant showings, lugging my four dogs and toddler in the car for hours, lack of sleep) our first home is no longer ours.  We had tons of interest, more than one offer, and a decision within six days.  I'm so happy that we can check this off our list because it's one step closer to moving into the home of our dreams.  If all goes as expected we should be in by early November.  Keep those fingers crossed for us and I'll make sure to keep updating on the process!

What's On My Radar: Current Loves

Well, I know this was quick but Kevin and I purchased a new home!  We've been looking at a brand new development for several months but the timing has never been quite right... Until now!  This home not only is walking distance to a gorgeous park, dog park, and private pool, it's literally right across the street from Kevin's long time best friend.  Let's just say we are over the moon with this new stage in our life!  So naturally, I had to dedicate today's post to everything for the home.  Our dream home needs some dream decor!  Everything you'll see below is from Target because let's face it, you can find absolutely everything you need there.  See what I've picked for our new home below:

Target Halloween
  1. Halloween Black Bottle Brush Trees
  2. Hanging Skeleton Frame
  3. Haunted Nesting Blocks
  4. Apothecary Jars
  5. Haunted Radio
  6. Fraidy Cat Paper Lantern String Lights
Because we can't start off a post without mentioning the amazing Halloween decor goodies Target has this year!  They've really stepped up their game, offering all styles of decor that basically work year round (at least in my house).  Can you believe that radio is only twenty five dollars?!

Target Living Room
  1. Sweep Floor Lamp
  2. Starburst Washed Wood Mirrors
  3. Midcentury Modern TV Stand
  4. Faux Succulent Glass Terrarium
  5. Centennial Sofa
  6. Round Cone Leg Ottoman
All I've ever wanted is a gorgeous mid century living room.  I have an obsession with clean lines and this couch is just perfect.  I love small hints of decor, but I really like the furniture to do the talking in this room.

Target Dressing Room
  1. Ceramic Table Lamp
  2. Gold and Mirrored Drawers
  3. Decorative Ceramic Elephant
  4. Leather Floor Mirror
  5. Oversized Sunburst Mirror
  6. Tufted Velvet Chaise Settee
  7. Ceramic Jewelry Storage Tray
Why yes, I'm still going to have a dressing room in this house.  My dressing room is my safe haven, plus it's the only place in the home where I don't have to compromise my style!  Give me all the gold, mirrors, and tufted furniture!

Target Bedroom
  1. Embroidered Square Pillow
  2. Seville Velvet Bed
  3. Accent Table
  4. Velvet Accent Chair
  5. Gold Resin Table Decor
  6. Carved Wood Panel
The bedroom happens to be my favorite room, but it's also the most overlooked when it comes to decor.  Kevin and I love gray and yellow together, so I think it's natural to have that color scheme in our room.  I love small, bright pieces of furniture and this yellow nightstand is perfect!

Target Kid's Room
  1. Cat Head Wall Decor
  2. Southwestern Teepee
  3. Cactus Throw Pillow
  4. Column Table Lamp
  5. Faux Sheepskin Rug
Bianca's room is pretty much set, but her new room is much bigger.  I think it will be fun to bring in some new decor, something less on the "baby" side and more on the "little girl" level she's on.  Ever since I saw that teepee in store I knew Bianca had to have it!  And guess what?  Now we have the room for one :).

As you can tell, I'm super excited about the move.  Do you have any moving or decorating tips for me?  Let me know in the comments below!

Read My Lips

Bernie Dexter Chelsea Dress in Lipstick Print on White

Since cutting my hair off last week I've had a hard time feeling comfortable in my own skin.  I know this sounds stupid but everything in my closet looks different now.  I guess I was kind of used to hiding behind my hair, which is not something I'd normally do.  I've always been a confident "lone wolf" kind of person, so the fact that I would even feel like less of myself without it is out of character.  But I'm determined to feel confident no matter what I look like, because that's exactly what confidence is.  I'm actually kind of excited to re-learn how to style myself to my liking.  And let me tell you, getting ready in the morning literally takes half the time now!

Since I've been a customer of Bernie's for years, I've come to realize what styles work for me and what don't.  The Chelsea dress is one of those styles that doesn't always work out, but this lipstick print was too cute to pass up!  The print is vibrant and the gold on the dress really shimmers.  It's a casual dress but the print really classes it up.  As always, Bernie's dresses are made from a breathable cotton, which is important for someone who lives in a constant heat.  While the straps aren't adjustable, they were the perfect length for me.  The skirt is incredibly full and has hidden side pockets.  While I normally take a size small in her dresses, I always need an extra small in the Chelsea cut.  If you're not super busty, I'd highly recommend sizing down in this dress.

Well, our house has been on the market for a little over a day and three people have already come by to see it.  It's definitely more popular than I was expecting, and I'm hoping this is a good sign to a quick sale!  We already have an amazing home in mind, so fingers crossed that everything works out like we want it to.

Fall Floral

Pinup Girl Clothing Sabrina Top in Black Laura Byrnes High Waisted Cropped Trousers in White and Red Floral Erstwilder Have A Hoot Brooch

Well, my wardrobe is currently in this weird limbo of wanting to move on to fall but still feeling the effects of summer.  I think this outfit perfectly reflects that!  I've been obsessed with the Laura Byrnes cropped trousers for years and I'm really happy that this year has seen lots of new colors and prints.  These pants are not only comfortable and very curve friendly, they're really easy to dress up for work and perfect to throw on when my days are full of running errands (I don't think I wear anything else to the market).  Added points are for this gorgeous white and red floral print, which look like vintage tapestry and obviously make me very happy.

Kevin and I are taking a really big step this week: we are selling our first home.  While our home still works for us, we're in a position where we can find something newer, bigger, and better.  We're really excited to see what's out there, but also kind of stressed at the sale process.  We've never done it before so I'm a little anxious but mostly happy to be looking at a better future for our family.  Wish us luck, hopefully this will be a smooth and easy transition for us!

Hourglass

Trashy Diva Hopscotch Dress in Hourglass Print

This week has been wonderful so far.  No appointments, events, or reasons to really leave the house. As an introvert I really enjoy my time alone.  The problem is this time is very scarce!  As overwhelmed as I can get, I know Bianca is going to preschool soon and I'll never get this time with her back.  So until that dreaded day comes, I'll keep this in mind when she's testing my patience (aka at least five times a day).  Luckily, I have a few solo hours today to treat myself to a haircut.  I've been putting this off for months but I'm excited for some change!

While this print wasn't an instant hit for me, knowing that it came in a Hopscotch cut solidified my decision to purchase it.  The last time the Hopscotch made an appearance was in winter 2013, so I clearly missed my chance to own one myself.  I love the full skirt (with pockets!), crystal button detail, and the cutout in the back.  It's super functional with a hint of sexy, which is how I'd really describe my wardrobe as a whole.  The Hourglass print is made from a wonderful stretch cotton, which feels light but has a stiffness to it.  While I wore an underskirt for these pictures, it can hold its own without one.  I'm usually between a 2 and a 4 (I've been taking size 2's in every collection since Crimson Clover) and the 2 is a perfect fit.  I know some ladies have sized up for bust comfort, but since I'm not super busty I decided to forgo that notion.  If you're on the fence, I'd highly recommend giving the Hourglass collection a try.  Cute color scheme + great cut choices + amazing fabric = one perfect investment piece!

Lobster Season

Hearts and Found Bardot Top in Black Lola Skirt in Lobster Season

I couldn't have been any more thankful for that three day weekend.  Although technically, Monday was my only day off.  When you work in retail, these weekends usually consist of blowout sales and crazy amounts of customers.  So we enjoyed Monday to the fullest by taking Bianca to the LA county fair.  We went on some rides, ate some ridiculously fattening food, and I even won Bianca a cute stuffed kitty!  I also wore this Bardot top, which was incredibly appropriate for the ongoing summer heat.

As I'm sure you already know, I'm crazy for Marjorie and her shop Hearts and Found.  I have several of her dresses and skirts but I wanted to try her new Bardot top.  Since my husband ruined my favorite black top in the laundry, I asked Marjorie if she could make it custom in black for me.  Of course, she was happy to do so and I couldn't love this top more.  You can wear it on or off the shoulder and has the perfect amount of coverage when you pair it with a high waisted skirt.  I opted for my Lobster Season skirt, which marries two of my favorite things: lobsters and Hawaiian prints!  If you haven't tried her skirts already, they are perfect.  She will make them to your waist measurement and desired length (without an extra charge) and there are endless choices in fabrics and prints.  Considering the price point, I feel like I need about 30 more in my closet!
