Unique Vintage 1950s Style Red & Cream Darcy Printed Swing Dress

Happy 4th of July!  Today is all about yummy BBQ, fireworks, and spending time with family and friends.  While I normally go for a blatantly themed outfit, I decided to do something more subtle this year.  This Darcy dress from Unique Vintage was the perfect choice for my holiday festivities!

The Darcy dress is a light but structured swing dress.  It features a circle skirt with large pockets, a back zip, and adjustable and removable straps.  I really loved the idea of wearing this strapless, but I opted for the straps today.  The print is really vibrant and you can easily add in lots of colors with a cute cropped cardigan or a statement necklace.  This dress also comes in a floral print and I'm hoping there are other cute versions in the future!

Well, we added another (maybe temporary) member to the family on Saturday.  Lucy, a senior golden retriever, was dumped off at a boarding facility with three of her friends.  All of them are ten years or older and wouldn't have a chance in the shelter.  Unfortunately, many people look over older dogs.  It kills me because I find that older dogs are such a perfect addition to any family.  They're usually trained, well mannered, and appreciate their new homes.  Dawg Squad, the organization where we found two of our chihuahuas, are fostering all of these poor seniors.  And guess who stepped up to foster Lucy?  This will be our first fostering experience, as well as our first larger dog.  She's doing great so far, we will see if her future home will be with another loving family or with us for good.  I'll keep you posted!

  5. I'm not really a dog lover.. I definitely prefer cats but I love senior kitties so much. It's a shame that senior animals often get overlooked when people are looking to expand their family. I applaud you for taking in Lucy! I hope she will be very happy where ever she ends up making her forever home. <3 Lovely dress too!

  6. I think the thing with older dogs and cats is that people are afraid they will lose them so soon. I mean, that's what I'd feel like. I love dogs and losing them is like losing family.

Another thing with dogs with (long) history, is that they can be rather unpredictable now matter how well they behave with humans and other "pact members". One large dog that was adopted by its owners (from a shelter) attacked our Finnish spitz and now our dog is forever scared of dogs bigger than her :/ Same dog was described as being sweet and kind to everyone, but it ended up attacking another dog later that got even more severely injured than our dog. Of course it's not the dog's fault, but its owners, because even though they didn't know what kind of history the dog had, they didn't keep it leashed. I think it was some kind of shepherd breed, which has a large territory, so they would have needed to keep it leashed even in their own yard (since it was able to run away and attack other people's dogs).

I don't mean to say all dogs are like this and given the chance, I would definitely adopt an older dog and give them a great home for the rest of their (short?) life, but I also understand people who feel like a puppy is a better choice, as they are a "clean canvas". Sadly that's one of the reasons why so many dogs end up in shelters, because people take puppies, don't train them but expect them to behave properly from the start. It makes me so sad, but thank goodness there are people like you, who will adopt abandoned dogs. I wish I could too, but no dogs allowed in my apartment :(
