At Home: My Dress Closet/Guest Bedroom

Room Makeover

I promised to update you on the transformation of my dressing room/guest bedroom this week and here it is!  While it's still a work in progress, I'm much happier now than I was just a week ago.  Kevin and I have very different design styles, so I couldn't wait to have free reign over this room.  I wanted something bright, colorful, and calming to the eye.  Check out the progress below!

My biggest issue with the room right now is that there is a lot of wall space and not many things I actually want to put on them.  I have a small collection of very big hats so I decided this would be the perfect way to display them.  I also added my DIY brooch holder to the wall near the window.  Basically it's cork tiles covered in fabric and surrounded by a wood frame, but Amanda over at Junebugs and Georgia Peaches will be posting an in depth tutorial in the next few weeks.  I prefer to have my brooches on display because I often forget to put one on!  If it's right in my face when I'm getting dressed, there's a better chance I'll remember to add it to my outfit.

I'm quite obsessed with the yellow/grey color scheme (our downstairs bathroom is the perfect example) but I wanted to add a bit more color to this room.  I was immediately inspired by this teal cabinet while I was shopping for decor and the rest is history!  I bought the vintage inspired fan at Home Goods way before the colors were picked, but it must have been a premonition.  Our ceiling fan was removed in this room because it wasn't mounted properly by the previous owner.  Because we live in such a hot climate, I purchased this desk fan for when my sister came to visit.  It actually works really well!  I love how it ties in perfectly with this room.  My goal was to have a simplistic approach to the decor so I went with clear bubble lamps and a mirrored frame for Bianca's baby picture.

I love a nice organized closet.  There's something about having everything in place and easy to locate.  I know I'm not the only one!  My closet had two very heavy and loud doors that just weren't working for me.  With Kevin's help, we took them off and I was able to properly organize my shoes, accessories, and petticoats.  Apparently I have way more shoes than I even realized, because I had to arrange them heel to toe to get them all in.  While it's not the prettiest, it maximizes my space.  I saved one shelf for purses and clutches and another for jewelry, sunglasses, and hair accessories.

Of course, my dress area is my favorite part of this room.  I keep them somewhat color coded so it's easy to find what I'm looking for.  I'm also guilty of forgetting what I actually have so it's nice to have them all in the open!  My favorite/most utilized shoes are in the easiest accessible area.  Not the prettiest but the most practical!  My belts, petticoats and my most precious vintage prom dresses are on the other side of the closet for safe keeping.

I'm looking forward to adding a desk over by the hat wall, somehow fitting in my full length mirror, and putting up more wall decor.  It's not finished but it's close!  Maybe one day I'll have a room big enough to have my skirts and separates in the same area...

xoxo

  7. This is like my dream closet right here... Is it sad that when purchasing a home a stipulation for me is a big closet? (;
