The Bluest Light

Hell Bunny Judy dress

For once it was cold enough to wear a coat!  I look forward to these days because they're so few and far between.  My coat selection is small and I think this one had been hidden away for years.  I love the pretty tiers on the bottom, I think it compliments the full skirt of this Hell Bunny dress quite well.

I also have to mention that some creepy farmer guy watched me take these pictures from his truck the entire time.  I was a little freaked out at first, but I just wanted to get the heck out of there with some decent pictures.  I'm still getting used to taking pictures in public.  People are always interested in watching some weird girl in heels with a baby and a tripod...

Inspiration: Layering

Now that the weather has cooled down it's time to start thinking about layers.  As someone who can wear short sleeves most months out of the year, I don't spend much time putting intricate outfits together.  When I do need to layer up I'm mostly clueless.  I'm really weird about proportions and I think everything looks kind of crazy on me, hence the dress and cardigan winter staples.  Here are a few of my favorite bloggers and their much better takes on layering.

Marlen of Messages on a Napkin
15525689151_c8d396de96_o
All hail to the layering queen!  I've been inspired by Marlen for years.  To be honest, I had a hard time picking just one picture for this post.  She can take everything from an evening gown to a summer sundress and make it work for winter.  She always has lots of tips and tricks to maximize your wardrobe, so I'd highly recommend adding her to your reader if you're clueless like me.

Jessica of Midwest Muse
12760215633_ab2bbb31b2_o
Jessica is quite knowledgeable when it comes to layering, probably because she would die in an Ohio winter if she weren't.  She doesn't own a pair of pants and she creates the prettiest outfits to accompany her winter wonderland posts.  It doesn't hurt that all her photos are gorgeous, too.  I've got serious camera/photographer envy over here.

CiCi of CiCi Marie
IMG_4065
I love Cici's vintage inspired style.  I feel like with the exception of tights and a cardigan, it's somewhat hard to stay true to that style without freezing during winter.  Cici somehow took an outfit, with jeans no less, and made it hers.  I don't usually like wearing jeans, but this outfit might need to be recreated in the future.

Olivia of Her Name Was Celebration
Fox-Dress-and-Beanie-1
I love that Olivia doesn't have an explicit style, so it's fun to see her play in her wardrobe.  This grunge inspired outfit is gorgeous and perfect for a southern California winter.  I really wish I could pull off a beanie like she does!

Lisa of LaLa Faux Bois
savers-holiday-outfit-6
I feel like Lisa and I deal with similar climates.  We both don't stock up much warm clothes for the winter but need to have staple pieces for those cooler days.  Lisa is another layering queen and I have so much love for her quirky cute style.  She's also a thrifting maven so her wardrobe is truly one of a kind.  Basically, I love her.

What blogs are inspiration to you?  I think there are too many to mention as a whole so I like to categorize them into groups.  Maybe it's my OCD getting the best of me, but I can always take away a little something from everyone.  I'd love to hear your suggestions and maybe add a few new blogs to my reader too!

xoxo

Merry Christmas!

Voodoo Vixen Daphne dress 007

Okay, so I know Christmas is actually tomorrow.  But as us Argentinians do, we celebrate tonight!  Our whole family is meeting up at our grandmother's house for some homemade empanadas and Argentinian desserts.  I know I don't look South American, but my mother immigrated here with her family as a young girl.  My dad is also Argentinian but was born here in the states.  Anyway, we like to eat, open presents, and stay up until midnight to celebrate Christmas.  I can't remember the last time I actually stayed up to celebrate, but at least I have Bianca as an excuse to go to bed early.  I have to be nice and rested for my 31st birthday tomorrow ;).

Nine to Fine

Modcloth Nine to Fine dress

I always feel guilty when we have a perfectly beautiful day and I don't go out to enjoy it.  These pictures almost never happened.  I had been out running errands all week and this was my only day to relax.  I figured I could go to a local hiking trail and take Bianca out while also getting some pictures for this post.  It worked out great, but people were looking at me kind of funny.  I guess I was overdressed to scale the mountain!

What's On My Radar: Current Loves

Since my birthday is on Christmas, I only get gifts once a year (not to mention, people think combining birthday and Christmas is okay.... Not okay at all!).  Kevin and the rest of my family have always done their best to keep my birthday separate from the holiday.  I think one of the best parts about it is getting that extra attention.  Who doesn't love that?  Here is my "I hope I get some of these" wishlist:

Bernie Dexter
PicMonkey Collage
1. Saturday Night dress in Lilac
2. Antonella dress in Red Gingham
3. Foxy Print Pinup dress
4. Veronique dress in Serenity Bridge print

Like I'd have a birthday wishlist without a few Bernie dresses on it!  I tried my hardest and I narrowed it down to these four.  I can't imagine having to pick between them but I really love that fox print.  What's your favorite?

Modcloth
PicMonkey Collage
1. Peppy Personality dress
2. And Many More dress
3. Day at the Ballet coat
4. Delectable Detour dress

No surprise that three of my four picks have polka dots on them!  I think my favorite is the coat, the few that I own are solid colors and I'd love to have something bright and fun.  Since I'm just a few weeks away from finishing my breastfeeding journey, I'm looking forward to wearing higher necklines again, much like the Peppy Personality dress.  I just love that bow!

Rebel Circus
PicMonkey Collage
1. Let It Snow dress
2. Red Dog Cardigan
3. Christmas Kitties Lizzie dress
4. Nautical Mermaid Flare dress

Rebel Circus is one of my new favorite places to shop.  They carry so many great brands!  Not to mention, their selection of cute novelty printed clothing is endless.  I'm especially smitten with the Voodoo Vixen mermaid dress, that print is just gorgeous.  FYI: They are having a HUGE sale right now too!

ASOS
PicMonkey Collage
1. Premium Prom dress with lace applique
2. Jack Wills Plaid V-Neck dress
3. Frock and Frill Embellished Skater dress
4. Closet Skater dress in botanical print

ASOS has an infinite amount of adorable dresses!  The plaid dress definitely has my heart though, probably because it has pockets.  The Closet floral dress is also a favorite.  If you don't own a Closet dress, I'd highly suggest it.  I love their fabrics and their beautiful cuts.

I'm very curious to see what Kevin gets me for Christmas/my birthday.  He's been ridiculously secretive about the whole thing so I'm sure it's going to be something good!  What's on your holiday wishlist this year?

Winter Wonderland

Bernie Dexter Osterley dress in Winter Wonderland print 002

I think it's going to be very hard to top this outfit here.  I love every little thing about it!  Bernie Dexter has the greatest cuts with the most fabulous prints.  The minute I saw her winter print I knew it had to be mine.  I had been waiting until the day after Thanksgiving to break it out and I've been wearing it constantly ever since.  Here in southern California we don't have very many cold days, but that doesn't mean I can't dress the part (and without the crazy layers)!

Wouldn't You Gnome

Retrolicious Modcloth All Eyes On Unique dress in Gnomes 001

You wouldn't know it from first glance, but I live in a pretty beautiful city.  Unfortunately, it's the epitome of suburbia (Pleasantville the movie was filmed in my neighborhood) but there are still nooks and crannies of untouched land.  You can find everything from vast mountains, desert terrain, even a forest if you feel like driving ten or so minutes north.  My problem is mainly laziness (and a baby as an excuse) so I never show it off.  These days I'm determined to make pictures just as interesting as my outfits.

Dotted Gold

Heart of Haute top and skirt 017

Who knew black and gold was a match made in heaven?  This Heart of Haute ensemble has been a go-to outfit lately.  I don't usually venture outside of a basic circle skirt (or a skirt at all) but I really love the fit of this princess seamed beauty.  It hugs the right areas but flares out perfectly.  These pictures truly do it no justice!

Eleven Months

This past month has been pretty big.  Bianca went from walking a few steps here and there to full on walking.  I'm such a proud mommy!  It seems like she's gained a lot of confidence because she's testing her abilities constantly.  It keeps me busier than ever but I enjoy every minute.

Bianca 11 months 013

Just like last month, her vocabulary is getting stronger.  You can tell she tries to communicate with Kevin and myself but just hasn't figured out how.  If I repeat a word over and over she stares at my mouth and tries to emulate the sounds.  I love how interested she is when it comes to learning new things.

Bianca 11 months 023

Bianca has regressed a little bit when it comes to eating.  She's starting to get picky!  She now refuses to eat butternut squash, which is crazy because it's so good.  She also doesn't like to eat her food if she knows I'm eating something different.  She actually compares our plates and starts yelling for my food if it's not identical.

Bianca 11 months 018

Her sleeping hasn't improved much.  I think it's mostly because I'm still breastfeeding (I'm going to make it to a year!) so she still wakes up for feedings.  Because I only work on weekends I don't really mind the nighttime interruptions.  Once she hits the twelve month mark, I can start giving her whole milk and maybe it will keep her fuller for longer.  Let's hope that will finally be the answer...

Bianca 11 months 063

Writing this post is a little bittersweet.  I only have one more to go!  It's been such a great experience sharing Bianca's first year so far and I'll miss these monthly posts.  I know it's been said a million times, but time just flies and babies grow way too fast.  I just wish I could put her on pause and enjoy this time a little longer!

Well, it's been awhile but Flock Together is officially off hiatus!  Check out how I channeled my inner Jessica with her super cute skeleton dress.  P.S. It also glows in the dark!  Click HERE to see the whole post.

Red Rhapsody

Unique Vintage Red Rhapsody dress

This is, by far, my favorite Unique Vintage purchase.  The day this dress showed up in store I knew I wanted to wear it for my Christmas card photos.  I love the sweetheart neckline, the off the shoulder sleeves, and the built in crinoline.  While I don't mind wearing a crinoline under most of my dresses, I find it especially convenient when I don't have to layer up.  It's the perfect addition to my closet and I've already worn it multiple times.  It also comes in navy and I had a serious conversation with my impulsive side to stop myself from buying that one too.  I'm just that type of person, if I like the fit of something I must have it in every color!

Crystal Heart

Heart of Haute Mitzi dress in Pendleton Plum 002

The holiday season is officially upon us and I couldn't be happier to dress the part.  The wonderful Mandie Bee over at Heart of Haute sent me this beautiful tartan dress which happens to be perfect for the cooler weather.  While I'm no stranger to cardigans, it's nice to have a dress with long sleeves which eliminates the need for layering.  The fabric is also fuzzy and warm, an ideal combination for someone who is perpetually cold.  I added a bit of sparkle to this outfit with my new Touchstone Crystal jewelry. I rarely wear anything besides my wedding ring, but these Swarovski crystals are the perfect compliment pieces.  Make sure you keep on reading, you'll have the chance to add some sparkle to your holidays too!
