Mount Desert Dreaming

Modcloth Ixia Mount Desert Dreaming dress 002

This outfit reminds me of my pre baby days.  There are definitely parts of me that I think have changed as I've become a mother.  The most obvious one is my body.  While the weight is gone, I don't think it's the same.  Besides that, I think my style has changed a bit too.  Shorter lengths make me more uncomfortable than ever!  I've also ditched most of my super high heels for more practical flats and wedges.  There are tiny moments when I like to revisit my older style choices, which is why they should definitely be featured on my blog when I do.

Last night Kevin, Bianca, and I went to a surprise party for a family member.  While we have family in California, they're far enough away that we only see them a few times a year.  It was nice to be able to take a mini road trip to see everyone.  It was also the first time most of our relatives got to meet Bianca.  Since she's been born two cousins have joined the family so she met them for the first time as well.  It was a great party, great food, awesome entertainment (belly dancers!), and a very happy non grumpy baby.

Today I'll be spending time baby proofing the kitchen (boo) and carving a Hello Kitty pumpkin (yay!).  I've got all the proper tools to carve something fancy so hopefully I'll get it right the first time.  I better, I only have one pumpkin to work on!

  1. Ah, but I do love this shorter length on you! Your styles are always super elegant, but with a higher hemline there's almost a bit more cute or something. Very lovely - and green looks great in your new hair! CC x

  2. This is very pretty. Sometimes I feel dresses with pictures on them are too busy but this strikes just the right balance. I feel like I still see you. Plus, impressionist style paintings are always lovely ;)

  5. LOVE the dress - the colours are gorgeous!

Haha - it might not just have to do with having a baby - I dress more conservatively now that I'm past the big 3-0. :( Lame, but I do feel a little weird wearing tall shoes and short skirts (despite still having the legs to pull them off!). I partially blame my conservatism on growing up in the midwest. :D

  6. You look so pretty (gosh, your hair looks AWESOME), and while I'm also getting more and more uncomfortable with shorter lengths, you look very babely in this dress!

  7. Gorgeous! I love your dress! I saw your pumpkin on Instagram, and Hello Kitty looks awesome--and you're right, belly dancers make great entertainers! I've been dancing with some friends for about a year, and it's so much fun. So glad your dog made an appearance, too! This post has everything!

  8. Colorful dress + cropped black cardigan + black flats used to be such a staple for me, too! I love the way the colors of this dress work with your hair, like a sunset. The many bow details are so cute.

Glad to hear that you guys had fun at your relatives' party! How crazy that so many babies have been born in your family in such a short span of time! I hope you had fun pumpkin carving :)

  9. I'm with you on feeling as though your body is different even though the weight is gone! My body shape has changed slightly; I still have the same waist measurement as pre-baby days, but my belly is softer and fuller now, and my hips got wider (as if I needed that...) I've also started looking for much more practical shoes. My highest heels only come out on Sundays now, haha!
You look so pretty here! I love that dress so much. The print is amazing!
